Kathleen "Kathy" Ann Munsell

of Yellville, AR

August 20, 1949 - January 21, 2025

Kathleen ''Kathy'' Munsell, with Native name White Owl, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life will be held at her home on February 20th, 2026.

Kathy was born August 20th, 1949 in Midland, Michigan to parents, Donald (Mary) Jensen and Effie (Bob) Bell.

Kathy and her loving husband, Monty, were married on December 24, 1991 in Bullhead City, Arizona and resided in Kansas City until making their home in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas in 1999 in the home they designed and built together.

Kathy is a loving mother, grandmother and even great grandmother who is also a Native teacher and mentor. Her spiritual quest which led to the creation of Turtle Island was a place to foster balance, healing and knowledge for all who sought it. A sacred space where all relatives could gather, honor, learn and strengthen their connection to oneness, the land and Lakota traditions.

Kathy worked as an IT specialist and programmer for several companies in the Kansas City area before retiring with her spouse, Monty, to their beloved land in Arkansas.

Kathy loved sports starting from playing softball in her youth to eventually coaching softball and was an avid fan of Women's college basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football. Kathy was a talented artist with jewelry, quilting and many crafts. Kathy had a love for nature and the outdoors which included flowers, gardening, a love for all animals and in several instances, she took in mistreated and abandoned animals to love as her own.

Kathy and her spouse, Monty, shared a love for classic cars and took interest in complete restoration projects for both a 1953 5-Window Chevy Pickup and 1958 Chevy Apache Pickup. They also did restorations on their beautiful 1967 Chevelle, named Janis. These restorations symbolize some of their shared experiences as a couple and craftmanship to preserving and bringing these vintage beauties back to life.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bobby; her spouse, Monty and her grandson, Justin. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kerry Brandon and Kimberly Wagner; Niece, Kerri Campbell and Grandchildren, Brandon (Kelsey) Knuckles, Kaylee Brandon, Dimitri Espinosa and Keedan Newman and Her great grandchildren, Lexie and Karson Knuckles, Eleanor Munsell, Athena Essary, Sabrina and Selena Espinosa. Kathy is loved and will be missed by countless friends, her Hunka family and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of the Ozarks, 811 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, AR 72653 or your local animal shelter.

Arrangements are in the care of Roller-Burns Funeral Home in Yellville, Arkansas.

My love and I have much to be thankful for because of my Hunka Sister, White Owl. Shadow Wolf and I met at Turtle Island and through the years at camp, learned so much about honoring Great Spirit in a grounded and natural way. Much learning and healing was experienced with the friendship and guidance given by my sister and throughout many camp gatherings. I will miss the the long talks about anything and everything, sitting on the deck with "Owl", petty "Willie" all while the racoons empty the bird feeders! Most importantly, I will miss her hugs.
She touched many lives and we shall all miss her greatly. Spirit Walker

Kathy will be missed by so many. She is a kind soul who knew the secret to a happy life. She was my favorite customer who brought her medicine every couple of weeks for 14 years via FedEx Express. I enjoyed our visits on my break. One of a kind for sure!!
