On 27 January 1951, Seaman Eugene D. Staton, Ship’s Store, boarded the USS Los Angeles (CA-135) on her voyage to the American efforts in the Korean War. She sailed for the Far East on 14 May and joined naval operations off the eastern coast of Korea on 31 May as flagship for the Navy. Seaman Staton lived with honor and humble pride in his service, which he extended to his wife and children over the years. And now, in his honor - Taps: Day is done, gone the sun - from the hills, from the seas, from the skies - all is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
It was an honor and blessing to have served Eugene and Mamie for these brief few years.
