of Marshall, AR
May 1, 1946 - April 24, 2024
Sue Branscum Geoghagan, 77, of Marshall passed away April 25, 2024 at her home. A native of Marshall, she was born the elder child of Willis Sutterfield Branscum and Lawdon Branscum.
Sue professed her faith in Jesus Christ as a youth and was baptized at the same time as her father. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshall. Sue attended Marshall Public Schools and graduated as Co-Valedictorian. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing. She would later return to obtain hours to be certified to teach Elementary Education. While at Fayetteville, Sue met Danny Geoghagan, a football player, with whom she shared an Economics class. They wed upon graduation starting a marriage that would last 55 years until her passing. After graduation they returned to Marshall as Danny was trying to figure out what his military obligation would entail. Sue was approached several times to substitute teach at Marshall Schools and each time she responded that she would soon be employed using her business degree. She finally gave in when she found out that an elementary teacher was going to have to miss 3 or 4 weeks of class and no one was available for that length of time. She filled in and the teacher was never able to return. Sue loved the kids and continued to teach 15 years in Marshall Elementary School. After relocating for her husband's employment, she also taught two years at Nemo Vista. Severe physical issues forced her to retire and Sue, accompanied by her mother, went to several major clinics across the U.S. to try to find help. There was only one treatment available at that time and Sue was allergic to it. Drugs for her crippling strain of Rheumatoid Arthritis, something that she possibly inherited, would not be developed until years later when it was too late for her. She spent the last years of her life mostly home bound.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents and beloved nephew, Michael Branscum. She is survived by her husband, Danny of Marshall and her only child, a son, Dr, Jay D. Geoghagan MD, (Heather) of Little Rock; a granddaughter, Ensign Adie Geoghagan of the U.S. Navy, stationed in Spain and a grandson, Nate Geoghagan of Little Rock a Senior at the University of Central Arkansas. Further, she is survived by a brother, David Branscum (Judy) of Marshall and brother-in-law, Billy Geoghagan (Denise) of Richland, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Sue's cremation will be handled by Roller-Coffman. No services will be held. A gathering of family and close friends will be scheduled at a later date.
Such a shock to hear of your passing! I remember the sleepovers at your house and your mom’s cooking. Rest In Peace sweet friend!
Dear David and family, we are sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful sister Sue.
May God bless and comfort you as you grieve.
One more heartbreak for our class of 1964, myself personally and her multitude of friends and family. Sue and I spent many hours together growing up in Marshall my 4th thru 10th grades. She would come to my house on the farm or I'd go to her house in town. Her mom was either cooking something yummy or had the table spread out with some fabric for a new dress she was making for Sue. Her mom and mine were friends for years. I so envied how elegant, proper and beautiful Sue was no matter what she was doing. I never did figure out how to do all that! She was a priceless treasure and a true friend.
To David and all the family,
We extend our sympathy for your loss. May God grant each of you comfort and peace.
So sorry for your loss. I remember her as being a very sweet and kind teacher.

I am saddened to hear of Sue’s passing. I know her entire family loved her dearly and will miss her greatly.
I always enjoyed casually visiting with her at the grocery store when she and Danny lived in Marshall. We usually chatted about school, and I would often tell her how so many of her former students praised her.
I last visited with her at Jack and Kristy’s wedding. She was as precious and gentle-spirited as ever.

To the family-
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I was one of those students that Mrs. Geoghagen taught when our teacher had to leave for medical reasons. She made a difficult situation for a group of 2nd graders a little easier. Her smile and sweet spirit let us know that she loved us and would take care of us for the remainder of that year.

Branscum Family, I am so sorry for the loss of Sue. She was so sweet and kind and she entertained the other teachers by telling jokes and funny stories. I do not know if all of you know that I did my practice teaching in Sue’s fourth grade classroom and she was so kind to her students. They loved her so much. I truly tried to model my teaching after her. I missed her so much when she stopped teaching. She had a heart of gold and loved her family so much. Heaven gained an angel.
