Sue Branscum Geoghagan

of Marshall, AR

May 1, 1946 - April 24, 2024

Sue Branscum Geoghagan, 77, of Marshall passed away April 25, 2024 at her home. A native of Marshall, she was born the elder child of Willis Sutterfield Branscum and Lawdon Branscum.

Sue professed her faith in Jesus Christ as a youth and was baptized at the same time as her father. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshall. Sue attended Marshall Public Schools and graduated as Co-Valedictorian. She continued her education at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing. She would later return to obtain hours to be certified to teach Elementary Education. While at Fayetteville, Sue met Danny Geoghagan, a football player, with whom she shared an Economics class. They wed upon graduation starting a marriage that would last 55 years until her passing. After graduation they returned to Marshall as Danny was trying to figure out what his military obligation would entail. Sue was approached several times to substitute teach at Marshall Schools and each time she responded that she would soon be employed using her business degree. She finally gave in when she found out that an elementary teacher was going to have to miss 3 or 4 weeks of class and no one was available for that length of time. She filled in and the teacher was never able to return. Sue loved the kids and continued to teach 15 years in Marshall Elementary School. After relocating for her husband's employment, she also taught two years at Nemo Vista. Severe physical issues forced her to retire and Sue, accompanied by her mother, went to several major clinics across the U.S. to try to find help. There was only one treatment available at that time and Sue was allergic to it. Drugs for her crippling strain of Rheumatoid Arthritis, something that she possibly inherited, would not be developed until years later when it was too late for her. She spent the last years of her life mostly home bound.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and beloved nephew, Michael Branscum. She is survived by her husband, Danny of Marshall and her only child, a son, Dr, Jay D. Geoghagan MD, (Heather) of Little Rock; a granddaughter, Ensign Adie Geoghagan of the U.S. Navy, stationed in Spain and a grandson, Nate Geoghagan of Little Rock a Senior at the University of Central Arkansas. Further, she is survived by a brother, David Branscum (Judy) of Marshall and brother-in-law, Billy Geoghagan (Denise) of Richland, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Sue's cremation will be handled by Roller-Coffman. No services will be held. A gathering of family and close friends will be scheduled at a later date.
