of Osceola, AR
October 15, 1922 - December 2, 2020
Mary Mulkey Maxwell, 98, of Osceola went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at SMC Regional Medical Center in Osceola, Ark. She was born on Sunday, October 15, 1922, in Huttig, Ark. to the late Forrest Winnfield Mulkey, Sr. and Alliene Smith Mulkey. After graduating, she moved to Shreveport, La., where she met and married the love of her life and husband of 63 years, the late James ''Dandy'' Monroe Maxwell. They made their home in Osceola, Ark., where she worked many years as secretary to the Superintendent of the Osceola School District. She was a devout member of the First United Methodist Church and oldest living member at the time of her death. Family and friends will always remember Mary or ''Mimi'' for her gift to befriend others, her beautiful smile, her big band tunes, and her famous chicken salad. All that knew Mimi knew how much she loved her family and how they loved her. Mimi and Dandy considered it a blessing to be grandparents to their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to so many more. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Monroe Maxwell of Osceola and her brother Forrest Mulkey, Jr. (Anna Lacy), survived by her daughter Becky Fergus (Scotty) of Osceola; two grandsons: Jay Fergus (Kelly-Gwynne) of Jonesboro, Ark. and Chris Fergus (Victoria) of Rogers, Ark.; one granddaughter: Rebecca Fergus Raney (Josh) of Fayetteville, Ark.; six great-grandchildren: Wells Fergus, Mason Fergus, Rowan Fergus, Maxwell Fergus, Hayes Raney and Pruitt Raney.
I am so sorry for your loss Becky and family's loss.
Condolences to the entire Maxwell, Fergus family. Mr. & Mrs. Maxwell were two of the most personable people that I got the chance to know. Again, sympathy for the Family.
Mary was such a special person. She worked for Brewer Hefner as his secretary and one of the first people I met when I (Shirley) came to Osceola. She was always so helpful.

Becky, what a bitter- sweet time this is. I know that Mary is at peace and happy to be reunited with Monroe and so many dear family members and friends. She was a beautiful example of God's love in this world. So many of my childhood memories are are filled with her smile and hugs. The lamp she and Monroe gave Martin and me for wedding present is still sitting on an end table and makes me smile and think of her each day. There are few people who can leave this world with a legacy so beautiful. I love you and know that your momma will live on in you and and all the rest of her family. Sending love to you all, Beth
