of Louisville, KY
October 4, 1927 - August 10, 2018
Dollie Fay Whitney, 90 of Louisville, KY died August 10, 2018, in Louisville. Dollie was born in Belden, MS, to Leonard and Gladys Roper. She graduated from Belden High School in 1944. She had a weekly radio program in Tupelo and there met her future husband, Donald Walker Whitney. After marriage the Whitney's lived briefly in Tupelo, then for several years in Blytheville, AR, and then in Osceola, AR, from 1957 until Dons death on August 20, 1985. Dollie remained a resident of Osceola, where she lived a total of 53 years until moving to Kentucky to live with her son and daughter-in-law in 2010. In Blytheville she operated ''Dollie's Flowers,'' and in Osceola worked part-time as a florist, then for many years as a teachers aide in the elementary school system. But her highest priorities were her family and church. For more than half-a-century, a churchwide meeting of Calvary Baptist Church rarely occurred without her attendance. Most of that period she served as a teacher of third-graders in Sunday School. In addition to the loss of her husband, Dollie was preceded in death by her brothers Leon Roper and W.C. Roper of Belden. She is survived by her son, Donald Stephen Whitney, his wife Caffy of Prospect, KY; sister: Annie May Morris of West Memphis, AR: granddaughter: Laurelen Muller of New Albany, IN, her husband Michael and great-grandson: Trippe.
Prayers for the family. She was a sweet Christian lady.she will be missed by many who grew to love her thru her service to the Lord.
Don and Caffy,
We were so sorry to hear about Dollie. We drove through Louisville on Sunday ( going to Pittsburgh to see our daughter).
We always think of Dollie and you as we pass through the city.
We always missed Dolly at church and loved her very much.
We are so sorry that we cannot be with you tomorrow for her visitation anf funeral, but we will be praying for your family tomorrow and in the days to come.
Love,
James & Shirley (Passmore) Wells
Our prayers to the Family. Memories of Aunt Dollie will always be with us.
Dear Donnie,
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your dear mother, Dollie. She was beautiful inside and out. As a little girl I remember her being a room mother for our elementary school parties. When I taught first grade I enjoyed working with her.
I remember attending your dad's service. I am sorry to say I will be unable to come to Osceola now because Dennis is not well.
Your family will be kept in my prayers.
Your 1972 OHS Classmate,
Vickie

Donald & family, I so loved your mother! She and I worked together at West Elementary years ago and she was so very special to me. As you know, your mother had a way about her of making you feel cherished and reminding you of who you were in Christ. I feel so blessed to have known her and know you grieve her loss but rejoice in her being in the presence of our Savior even now. God bless you as you go through hard days of missing her. Most sincerely, Kellie Person Burnett
Condolences to Dollie’s family. What a wonderful person she was. She and Don attended Calvary Baptist Church, where my mother and I went. Such a good, Christian woman.
