of Louisville, KY
October 4, 1927 - August 10, 2018
Dollie Fay Whitney, 90 of Louisville, KY died August 10, 2018, in Louisville. Dollie was born in Belden, MS, to Leonard and Gladys Roper. She graduated from Belden High School in 1944. She had a weekly radio program in Tupelo and there met her future husband, Donald Walker Whitney. After marriage the Whitney's lived briefly in Tupelo, then for several years in Blytheville, AR, and then in Osceola, AR, from 1957 until Dons death on August 20, 1985. Dollie remained a resident of Osceola, where she lived a total of 53 years until moving to Kentucky to live with her son and daughter-in-law in 2010. In Blytheville she operated ''Dollie's Flowers,'' and in Osceola worked part-time as a florist, then for many years as a teachers aide in the elementary school system. But her highest priorities were her family and church. For more than half-a-century, a churchwide meeting of Calvary Baptist Church rarely occurred without her attendance. Most of that period she served as a teacher of third-graders in Sunday School. In addition to the loss of her husband, Dollie was preceded in death by her brothers Leon Roper and W.C. Roper of Belden. She is survived by her son, Donald Stephen Whitney, his wife Caffy of Prospect, KY; sister: Annie May Morris of West Memphis, AR: granddaughter: Laurelen Muller of New Albany, IN, her husband Michael and great-grandson: Trippe.
