My deepest sympathy to Emogene and all of the Nutt family. Houston was a wonderful man with a huge heart. I had the pleasure of meeting him in the early 90's through our mutual interest in Dobermans. I experienced first hand Houstons big heart as he helped my wife and I in obtaining a vehicle. He would not rest until he found us a car suitable for our rather large family. We have thought about him a lot over the years and still recall the puzzled look on his face when I had to confess to him that I did not understand the game of American football ( since we are British and had only recently come to the U.S ) Houston was a fine Christian man with a genuine love of people and I am honored to have known him. Our prayers are with you Andy and Michelle Kay and family.

Dear Emogene and family, Words are inadequate at a time like this to express my sincere sympathy to you in your great loss but wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know that Houston and W. O. have had a great time in visiting already and I can just see Mary Frances standing behind taking it all in and not saying a word!! She wouldn't have a chance. I will always remember coming into the sanctuary on Sunday morning and Houston reaching out to shake my hand and to talk about our Dobermans...what a sweet smile he had...and for those sweet poems that you sent to Mary Frances after W. O. passed away and those beautiful Christmas letters. But just think of stepping on shore and finding it Heaven, of touching a hand and finding it God's, of breathing new air and finding it celestial, of waking up in Glory and finding it home. My love to your boys and their families.. Gertrude Witt

To the Nutt Family: There are no adquate words of comfort that can be offered when a loved one is called home to the Lord, other than to say, "I'm so sorry for your loss." Please know that each one of you are in my thoughts and prayers and you may take comfort in knowing that Mr. Nutt was loved by everyone who knew him. He was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, friend and teacher. I am certain that at this very minute, Houston Nutt, Sr. is looking down upon all of you from Heaven. I hold very fond momeries of Mr. Nutt in a very special place in my heart that I have of him during my school years at ASD ('78-'82). He was so up-beat and made you feel special. He didn't treat you any diff. because you were deaf. He made us believe we can conquer anything if we set our mind to it. He helped establish that strong foundation for us before we went out into the so-called "hearing world". He prepared us and gave us that strong sense of self-worth. I also enjoy the many conversations Omogene and I had during my school years. My thoughts and prayers are with the Nutt Family. May you all know and believe that he is in a MUCH better place with the Lord after he walked through those White Pearl Gates into Paradise. We can 'hear' the Angels sing in our hearts. God has called Houston home to give him a plan to coach the Heaven's basketball team, So when we get there we will see the team. Because the Bible promise us in John 14:1-4 Let not your heart be troubled ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many manisons, if it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also. So I hope this will bring comfort and peace in your hearts. As a native of Fordyce and have know about the Nut family there and especially Houston, Sr. since I was a youth I can see in the sons of Houston Nutt a quality that transends sports to a person who cares about the young men in their charge just like Houston, Sr. did with his boys at Ark. Scool for the Deaf. Houston, Jr. Danny, Dickey, Dennis you are your father and no matter what comes along in life remember him and how he would handle everything and you do that now but jkeep it up. Fordyce has had some great men who were sports greats but Houston, Sr. is and was and always be the greatest becuase he choose the better things in life over others so that he and your mother could give a better life to children who had disablities but learned from those two that they were gifted in many other ways. When I see you boys coach now I see men who can't help but talk with their hands and their hearts for their charges of young men. Lord bless you.

I was one of Nutt's student long time ago and I graduated in 1967. I've always looked up at him. He's a great man! I miss him.

We are very sorry to know that Houston Nutt, Sr. passed away. We appreciated for what he had done in the past as coach at ASD. We enjoyed knowing him. As one of many students at ASD. We, also, are proud of his family to give us enjoyment in sports-wide. James and Jackie Stover of Star City, AR

Our deepest sympathy to Emogene and Nutt family. We alway thought of Houston all the time. Our favorite memories with Houston Nutt only that day at High School in 1987. We were high school sweetheart at deaf school in Little Rock, Ark. he came to us and believed we will getting marry in future. we told him we dont think so. His words came true. we got married in 2003. We surely miss him. God Bless you all Nutt Family.

We will miss Houston. I grew up in Fordyce watching Houston play basketball and he was one of the greatest I have ever seen. The Lacewell family and the Nutt family have been friends a very long time and will continue to be. I still rememeber my Dad picking up the Nutt boys and making sure they made it to the basketball and football games. They did not have a vehicle. Larry and I would like to send our deepest condolences to Emogene and all the boys, and to his brother and sister in Fordye.

To the Nutt family, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. My father passed Saturday, and I know what you're going through. I never knew your father, but admire all that he has done for the state. God bless.
