John Nichols, age 78, of Western Grove, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Harrison. He was born May 21, 1934, in Searcy County, Arkansas, the son of Tony and Mary (Bankston) Nickell. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rita Joyce Nichols; and his sisters, Helen Galligher, Lou Snider, and Bill Alexander.

John married Rita Joyce Williams April 12, 1957, who preceded him in death October 29, 2012. He was a logger and sawyer all of his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

John is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Cheryl Nichols of Bergman, Arkansas and Sam and Tina Nichols of Greenbrier, Arkansas; his daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Alan Sandefur, of Everton, Arkansas; his sisters, Goldie DePriest of Harrison and Shirley Owen of Prairie, Kansas; and his brother, M. L. Nichols, of Olathe, Kansas.

John is also survived by six grandchildren, Nikki and Josh Morton of Barnwell, South Carolina, Jonathan Nichols of Greenbrier, Arkansas, Emily Joiner of Branson, Missouri, Timothy Nichols of St. Louis, Missouri and Eli Nichols and Shelby Nichols, both of Conway, Arkansas; a great-granddaughter, Grace Ann Joiner, to be born January 16, 2013; and a host of many dear friends.



Visitation was Friday, January 11, 2013, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.

Funeral service was Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Bro. Jerry "Cub" Scott officiating.

Pallbearers were Eli Nichols, Jonathan Nichols, Timothy Nichols, Josh Morton, Glen Nelle, III and Rick Hudson.

Interment was in Crawford Cemetery.
