December 19, 1939 - November 30, 2004

Jerry W. Davis 64, a renowned leader in the food industry and the Little Rock Community went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 30, 2004. Born December 19, 1939 in Opal, Arkansas, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Davis and Margaret Davis Keene; and two grandsons, Cole McGee and John Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Shirley Davis; two daughters, Gina Hurt and her husband Darrell of Sherwood and Jodi Jackson and her husband Steve of Benton; two stepsons, Freddie McGee and his wife June of Justin, Texas and Gaylen McGee and his wife Carla of Lonoke; his grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Maddie McGee, and Kayla McGee; a sister Jane Mooser and her husband Donald of Searcy; nephew Dr. Jeff Mooser and wife Gloria of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; niece Donna Armstrong and husband Bob of Searcy; and an aunt, Lucille Looper of Searcy.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jerry had a passion for life. He loved cars, racing, and adored his dogs (girls) Angel and Tugar. Jerry loved to travel, eat great food, spend special times at his lake house and other special places with special people. He was the love of Shirley's life and she will cherish their times together in her memories.

Mr. Davis served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer for Affiliated Foods Southwest, Inc. He took great pride in being an Arkansan, having been born, reared and educated in the state. Prior to joining Affiliated in 1967, he had spent 11 years with Safeway Supermarkets. For the past 37 years he had been employed by Affiliated and had been a member of the firm's Management Team since 1971. For 5 years he served as Special Assistant to the President, under C. E. ''Doc'' Toland, until becoming Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 1983. In 1986, he became Affiliated's President and Chief Operating Officer. In January 1997 the Board of Directors appointed Jerry Davis, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer.

He loved the grocery industry and had a deep commitment to serve the independent retailer. He was a voice to be reckoned with in promoting the independent supermarket owners and was active in matters on their behalf at the Judicial, Legislative and Executive levels of both State and National Government. He served on the Board of Directors for the National Grocers Association, Washington D.C.

Mr. Davis was actively involved in the Little Rock Community. He served on numerous Boards of non-profit organizations giving of his time and resources. He had a great passion for those in need and never hesitated to act on their behalf. Jerry was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Pastor's Sunday School Class. He has served for the past 7 years as a member of the Arkansas State Police Commission and was currently the Commission Chairman.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2004 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Rex M. Horne, Jr. and Reverend David Harris officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Arkansas State Police Honor Guard will provide honors.

Pallbearers are Sam Tatom, Elmer Thomas, Steve Riggs, Al Miller, Herston Ingle, Jimmy Simmons, Dr. Tom Smith, and Dr. Jeff Mooser. Honorary pallbearers are Affiliated Management Team, John Mills, Wayne Hall, Ron Rivers, Clint Caldwell, Steve Wheetley, Gary Bales, Bob Southern, Jackie Turner, Randy Weiss, Tom Pittman, and Randy Arceneaux. The family will receive friends at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501-224-8300) from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2004.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 N. Shackleford Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211 or Baptist Health Foundation, 9601 Interstate 630, Exit 7, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205-7299.

Even though I didn't work for Jerry but one year, he was one of the nicest men a have ever known. Mr. Davis was always fair to me & he understood the retail side of the grocery business. ( While at Affiliated I ran the company owned stores just prior to the Harvest purcahse). Jerry was an extremely fair boss and the only reason I left Affiliated was several of my family members were getting old and I had to move back to Springdale. There will never be another Jerry Davis and Affilliated will never be the same. My God be with you. Bob Downum

Jerry was a dear friend. He was always there when I needed him. During my tenure as sheriff of Pulaski County from 1984 to 1994, he was more than a friend. He encouraged me and went out of his way to help with fundraising. Jerry was a good friend to many people and will be greatly missed. Carroll Gravett

I believe Jerry understood and practiced this scripture. I Chronicles 29:14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. Eternity will reveal how many lives his life enhanced. I pray for the comfort of the family.
