What a shock that our beloved cousin Mike was taken away from us! I had just mentioned him to my own kids that week as the big cousin that was so much fun when I was a little kid. He had taught my brother and me to talk like donald duck and we practiced and practiced until we had it just right and we could show him that we could do it, too! He was so cool! We thought he was the best!
Knowing that he is now with Uncle Jerry makes it a little easier, but selfishly we still wish he was here.
Gari, your love letter at the funeral was so touching and I know he must have loved you incredibly! Lucky him to get such a great girl! Sounds like he was very happy! Thank you for loving my cousin so much.
All my Love,
Cousin Cookie
The Bassett family is obviously very special to many. My heart goes out to his family, especially Mrs. Tynse, Dudley, Tanner, Barry, as well as his wife, Geri Lynn, and Brett.
I pray that the memories you share of Mike will comfort you during this time of grief. May God's love provide you the peace needed to endure this difficult time.
With sincere condolences,
Gari,
Words can not express the shock and sadness I feel at your sudden and tragic loss. My deepest sympathies and best wishes are with you, Brett and all the Bassett family. God bless you all.
Although I didn't see Mike in the last few years, some of my fondest memories were during his childhood days as a little leaguer on baseball teams that I coached. I can still remember him on the mound ready to pitch with his tongue hanging out. The Bassett family were pillars of the community of Walnut Ridge. He will be greatly missed. God bless the Bassett family.
He was a great friend, roommate, fraternity brother, older brother figure and just a great part of my life. I will miss him a great deal. He added happiness to my life and I will see him again. Get us a good tee time Heaven "Hound". Thoughts and prayers are with Gari,Brett and the entire Bassett family.
Gari,
I am gorry for your loss. You will be in my prayers.
I am so sorry to learn of Mike's sudden death. I haven't seen him a lot since high school, but when I think of Mike, I think of the way he always treated me so nice and was so respectful. The family is in my prayers.
Janet
This isn't a note I send easily.
This is a shock; it has been too long that I had immediate contact with Mike. That in no way diminishs the quality of the contact. I have vivid memories of that coy, winsome smile.
My years in WR were such a luxury; Mike was part of that extravagance of a life well lived. We were afforded a foundation, un-comprimised. The community loved and looked after us, as teenagers we might not have fully appreciation of that "sense of responsibility" though it served us well.
Mike and I spent many hours in student council under the loving eye of Freda Wilmuth. Thankfully, I had the back of Mike's charm to smooth my rough edges. Unfortunately, the rough edges remain.
Relish the fabulous memories and hope for the future. Peace is at hand, welcome and enjoy it.
Gari, we are so sorry for your loss and will be keeping you and Brett in our prayers in the days to come.
Gari - There are no words to express how we all feel at this time. I had the priviledge to work with Mike. He was always smiling, that cute little grin, and always had a twinkle in his eye! He was a great mentor and friend. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with you and Brett.
Gari and Brett,
Our family prayers are and have been with you each day. Your loss can only be understood by those who have known and loved Mike. Mike's engaging smile and personality always lit up the room wherever he went. Being the selfish person I am, I would rather Mike still be here with us, but one consolation is that Mike can visit with Uncle Jerry. How joyous a reunion I'll bet that was! All our love - Melissa, Scott, Harrison, and Jeffrey Smith.
Gari, What a wonderful service it was. I was so touched by your letter to Mike, his friends and family. You are truly a wonderful person and it was obvious Mike was so in love with you. I felt like "one of his girls" as he always had a hug and kind words for me. Know that I truly felt blessed to have known him. Please call me to talk, walk or just hang out. Love ya girl!
Gari - you and Mike came into my life when I didn't think I would survive. I can't tell you how much you mean to me. Mike will always have a special place in my heart. If you need a friend, I will always be here. I am so thankful that you and Brett have each other to lean on during this time. Please know that you are deeply loved.
Love, Marsha
I am sorry to hear of Mike's passing. We went to school and graduated together. I do have fond memories of playing football with Mike. Our prayers are with you.
Mike and I started our careers together right out of college working for Dun & Bradstreet, in 1979 in Little Rock. I would never have made it there if it had not been for Mike's sense of humor, and encouraging nature. I will always treasure his friendship in those early years. It meant the world to me. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Our prayers are with your family.
Dear Gari,
I am so very sorry about Bassett, my heart goes out to you and Brett. Mike will be greatly missed and always remembered. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I was very saddened at learning of Mike's passing. I grew up with Mike in WR until about 7th grade and moved to Pocahontas & played ball then against him through Jr Hi & High school. Several yrs ago I saw Mike at Red Lobster in LR and it was like old times, talked about past ball games, etc. You should be very proud of Mike. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

We cherish our memories we've made together and hold them so close to our hearts as support, in this time of sadness. We love you Gari and we know how much Mike loved you.
I haven't seen or talked to Mike in probably 30 years, but time has not diminished the memories I have of our time together as teenagers in WR. I have told many people that Mike was one of the two or three best athletes to ever graduate from WRHS-whatever he tried he did well. I am sure he carried that desire for excellence into whatever he has done in his adult life. My deepest sympathy is extended to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours during this time of loss in your family. I will always fondly recall Miichael as the QB and young leader of one of my father's "best" HS football teams. My father held Mike is such high regard then as a young man and even more as the man he became later in life. My parents phoned me about Mike's passing on March 12. The entire Stovall family is saddened by the loss of Mike, but is blessed by being a "small" part of a wonderful man's life. May God bless you and yours always...
Mrs. Bassett, I am so sorry for your loss. I know it is of little solace at this time, but in time I hope you take comfort in the fact that you and Dud bore and raised a wonderful child who became a man who made such a positive difference in the world - to his son, parents, wife, brothers, nephews and everyone he interacted with. I never heard or know of anyone who did not think the world of Mike Bassett.
Jerry, I know you must be just devastated. I don't know what to say, but please let me know of anything I can do. I know you are going to miss him greatly. Jerry, I know it is the farthest thing from your mind right now, but if I can help you this weekend or Monday with any logistics, do not hesitate to call me. My number is 870-219-4144.
Please accept our most sincere condolences in the passing of Mike. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, especially Brett and Dud, with whom we have spent many happy hours along with Mike in the past.
