Margie Lourana James Brown, 96, of Sulphur Rock died Saturday, December 20, 2008 in a local nursing home.
She was born at Wrenton, near Floral in Independence County, August 31, 1912, the daughter of William Berton James and Ada Belle Manuel James.
She was a homemaker and worked closely with her husband in the churches he pastored. She enjoyed quilting, reading, and gardening. She was dedicated to her family and her Christian life and loved to sing and get to know everyone in the church and their genealogy. She was a member of Sulphur Rock Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 64 years, Reverend Luther Ernest Brown, her brother, Thomas Manuel James; two sisters, Monnie Anabelle James and Mary Alta Gunn.
Margie is survived by a sister, Miriam Catherine Callison of Bentonville, a son, Charles Dale Brown and his wife, Kaye of Shreveport, Louisiana; three daughters, Joyce Catherine Trapp and husband, Robert Walton of Decauter, Mississippi; Zelpha Lea Bates and husband, John of Sulphur Rock, and Judy Isabelle Garner and husband, Darrel of Sulphur Rock; eleven grandchildren, Cathy Calamari of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Rosalyn Millikin of Shreveport, Louisiana, Greg Brown, presently serving in the United States Air Force in Iraq, Tony Krepps of Scott City, Missouri, Kelley Campbell of Brandon, Mississippi, Marjorie Whitmore of Rogers, Arkansas, Michael Threet of Sunnyvale, Texas, John Threet, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Julia Conn of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Joseph Garner of Houston, Texas, and Daniel Garner of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Batesville with Bro. Michael Conyers and John Threet officiating.
Pallbearers are John Threet, Michael Threet, Randle Milliken, Aaron Brown, Mike Whitmore, and Danny Thomason.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, December 22 and from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery at Floral by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
