September 23, 1935 - March 31, 2025
Sandra Scott (Skatchke) Birdwell went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of March 31, 2025 with some of her children by her side. She was born Sandra Carol Scott (Skatchke) in Chicago, Illinois on September 23, 1935, the eldest child of Raymond Robert Scott (Skatchke) and Edna Minna Heurich.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Alvis Owen Birdwell; her brother, Conrad Scott (Skatchke) and the beloved family Collie Dog, Cinnamon. She is survived by her four children, Donna (Dick) Walker, Deborah Shepherd, Sean Birdwell and Sarah (Larry) McGinnis. Also left to cherish her memory are her nine grandchildren, Jillian Wright, George, Camilla Hartzell, Christy Honeycutt, Freddy, Joshua Cochran, Jennifer, Jonathan Cochran, Cory Birdwell, Chloe Townsend, Caleb, Micah McGinnis, Seth McGinnis, Sarah and seventeen great grandchildren.
After her graduation from Niles East High School in 1953, Sandy worked at a flower shop which was a perfect beginning for her lifelong love of plants and flowers. She was also employed for many years at her mother's restaurant in Morton Grove, Illinois, "The Golden Dinner Bell". She remained there until Edna retired. Al, Sandy, the four children and the beloved collie dog headed south in January of 1973 and she assisted her husband in their family business, Birdwell's Exxon. She spent her spare time growing flowers, arranging flowers and wreaths, feeding people, volunteering and serving as a lay minister in the United Methodist Church.
It is difficult to sum up a lifetime in a few short paragraphs, but many words and phrases come to mind: loving and faithful, true child of God, cherished, irreplaceable, determined, honest and ethical. She loves her savior Jesus Christ, her family with all of their flaws and imperfections, her neighbors and her country, she loves flowers, birds and feeding people. She spent her life feeding anyone and everyone with food, with works and with the Word of God.
The Memorial Service will be held at the Roller-Daniel Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday the 5th of April at 11:00AM. Pastor Jeff Jackson of the Searcy First Methodist Church will be officiating over the service.
