William Edward Black, 85, of Jonesboro, AR passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 2, 1939 in Pocahontas, AR to Harmond J. and Edith M. (Williams) Black. William was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army, serving more than 20 years active duty during the Vietnam War before retiring with honors. During his service, it is said that he could fix anything, from an old car to the complex machinery of a military helicopter. After the military, he worked as an aviation mechanic at the Jonesboro Airport before settling in at Sears, where he retired. As a civilian, he was an avid outdoorsman. On any given day, he could be found hunting for arrowheads, digging for quartz and gemstones, hiking, gardening or bird watching. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce; his parents; brothers, Robert, Ernest, Carl and an infant brother and sister, Louise.
Left to cherish the memory of William are his children: son, Patrick (Tara) Black and daughter, Cheryl (Jamie) Danley; grandchildren, Madeline (Seth) Kaylor, Jimmy (Kate) Danley, Heather Coble, Victoria (Bryson) Childs, Emily (Tristen) Luis and Megan Coble; great grandchildren, Haven, Lili, Lucy, Grayson, Hudson, Avery, Maya, Hunter and Judah and many friends, family, neighbors and loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home (1900 W. Washington Ave. Jonesboro, AR 72401) on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2pm with Sonny Childs officiating.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in William's memory to Dierkson Hospice (2504 Alexander Drive Jonesboro, AR 72401) as they took such good care of William and his family.
Arrangements are under the care of Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home.
Our hearts are saddened and deeply saddened at the loss of our friend and even more saddened for the loss of your precious dad -grandfather and great grandfather.
