of Cabot, AR
July 2, 1934 - March 29, 2025
Betty Lynn Shirkey Abbott, 90, passed away peacefully at home with family on March 29, 2025. She was born July 2, 1934, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, as the youngest of 8 children to Roy and Celia (Rhoads) Shirkey. After graduating from Carlisle High School in1952, Betty worked for Riceland Farms before marrying James Wheeler ''J.W'' Abbott. During the course of her life, she worked many jobs and retired as a Federal Civil Servant from the VA Engineering Training Center at Fort Roots in North Little Rock, Arkansas. However, she valued her faith in Jesus and her family above all things, as the proud mother of 5 children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 45 years, J.W., and her sons, Mark and Matt. She is survived by her three daughters, Beth Moore (Charley), Laura Abbott, and Leslie Boone (Keith).
Our Mom never met a three-year-old she did not like. She advocated treating all people kindly. She also looked out for her neighbors by serving the elderly or donating for school lunch programs. She always spoke up for the underdog. Betty had a megawatt smile and exuded kindness to all even until her passing.
Micah 6:8 was one of her favorite scriptures: "Mankind, he has told each of you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.''
A private graveside service will be held by family. The family thanks Arkansas Hospice and CareLink for their support and care.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you to donate to an organization of your choice.
