of Arlington, TN
August 20, 1942 - March 26, 2025
Lucille "Lu" Marie Harter, 82, of Arlington, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Germantown, Tennessee with her loved ones by her side.
She was born on August 20, 1942, in New Orleans, Louisiana to her parents, George Cuntz and Laurette "Combell" Cuntz.
A high school graduate taught by the nuns of Sacred Heart Catholic School in Memphis, Tennessee, she later studied bookkeeping, heralding her way into the workforce. Her career expanded in Washington DC, where her skills made manifest as she took on financial management for a prominent firm. Upon ultimately settling into real estate development, her true passion that stretched back to her childhood admiring her uncle's architectural blueprints; she was the vanguard for Memphis's construction effort. When she wasn't working, she busied herself as an avid reader, serving the City of Arlington Library Board. A self-proclaimed expert in ''useless trivia,'' she found great enjoyment in sharing this knowledge with her grandchildren. Her grandson, Alec, took to her example and love of books, to which she introduced The Dick and Jane Series to encourage his pursuit of reading. While with her granddaughter, Arianna, she acted as her primary instructor for nearly the entirety of her homeschooling education, igniting her college aspirations. Moreover, much of her life lied in her faith as a devout Catholic. Whether acting as a Benedictine Oblate for Subiaco Abbey, an RCIA Sponsor, or teaching ESL, she never strayed from her beliefs. Her love of music was undeniable, and, in her youth, she was both a vocalist and guitarist for her parish folk group. Through her last days, clutching her Rosary, she never hesitated to spread awareness of The Great Mysteries to all those who inquired.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of fifty years, Leslie "Les" Harter.
She is survived by her son, George Harter of Raleigh, North Carolina, and her daughter, Cyndi Harter of Arlington, Tennessee; a sister, Doris Watts and husband, Billy of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and two grandchildren, Alec Harter and Arianna Harter of Arlington, Tennessee.

You was a very dear and true Friend and you will truly be missed I will always Cherish our Friendship.
Lu and I became friends when we were 19 years old. We always shared - and laughed about - the story of the beginning of our friendship. I have treasured that friendship for over 60 years. She was truly an amazing person who will be missed by many, including me.
Lou was a very special lady. I enjoyed sharing memories of places we had lived but at different times. We sat next to her every Sunday at church. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May she rest in peace.
