of West Helena, AR
July 17, 1932 - March 13, 2025
Eva Da Burge Mitchell, 92, of Searcy, Arkansas, formerly of West Helena, Arkansas, passed peacefully into her eternal home surrounded by her children on March 13, 2025 at Unity Health White County Medical Center after a brief illness. Eva was born on July 17, 1932 in Dota (Charlotte), Arkansas to Troy R Burge and Audra Merle McGee, the middle and only girl among four brothers. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert Burge, Johnny Burge, Jack Burge and Jimmy Burge.
Eva married John F. Mitchell on December 26, 1952 and they remained together until his death in 2024, marking 71 years of marriage. Eva was a true Proverbs 31 mother to three children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was known for her selfless service to others and her skills in the kitchen, but her loving sense of humor and unwavering belief in the perfection of her grandchildren and great grandchildren is her legacy.
Mom's love language was food - if you were in her presence, she wanted to serve you something made special just for you. She served in her local Methodist Church during her adult life as church secretary and nursery worker. She loved God and people and instilled that love in her family. Mom had an infectious smile and laugh that will be missed. Everyone felt her home was their home - her loving spirit embraced you. She gave the best hugs! Today, the world grew a little darker. While her absence leaves an undeniable void, her love, laughter and steadfast faith will continue to guide us. We take comfort in knowing she's reunited with loved ones, resting in eternal peace.
She is survived by her children, Bob Mitchell of West Helena, Amy Rutledge of Searcy and Bruce (Patricia) Mitchell of Cabot. She was a loving Memaw to six grandchildren, Audra ''Mikki'' (John) Hamilton of Searcy, Dr. Dale (Ross Maestas) Rutledge of Seattle, WA, Foster (Brittany) Mitchell of West Helena, Rebecca (Phillip) Morter of Fort Smith, Dr. Katherine ''Katie'' (Trysten) Mitchell-Davis of Little Rock and Sarah (Daniel Torchinsky) Mitchell of Little Rock. Her four great grandchildren are John David and Jim Hamilton of Searcy and Easton and Kallen Mitchell of West Helena.
Special thanks to the staff of Unity Health White County Medical Center and Arkansas Hospice for providing compassionate care to our mom and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Arkansas Children's Hospital.
