Lonnie Kevin McCullough

March 15, 1956 February 10, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lonnie Kevin McCullough, who left this world on February 10, 2025 at the age of 68. Born on March 15, 1956 to Billy and Charlotte McCullough, Lonnie was a man of deep love, generosity and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his beloved parents; his wife and the love of his life, Darlene Smith; his daughter, Amanda McCullough and his great-grandchild, Skylynn Buckhault. Though he endured profound loss, he found strength in the love of his family and in the simple joys of life.

Lonnie was a man who embraced the outdoors, finding happiness in fishing, camping and gathering with family for barbecues. He was known for his kind and giving heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. For the past 15 years, he worked at Clarke Contractors, where he formed many cherished friendships and took great pride in his work.

One of Lonnie's greatest passions was riding his motorcycle. He loved the feeling of freedom on the open road, where nothing could hold him back. His icon was the bald eagle and when he rode, he felt like he could fly-wild, free and untamed, just like the spirit of the eagle he admired so much.

He is survived by his sisters, Layra Schroeder (Clinton, IA) and Delores Moscrip (Paso Robles, CA); his brothers, Bill, Mike, Doug, and Warren McCullough of California and his children, Milisha Bryant, Jeffery Case (Jennifer) of Atmore, AL and Kevin McCullough (Amanda) of Castleberry, AL.

Lonnie was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Jerry Buckhault of Atlanta, GA; Jasmine Bryant; Nathan, Rachael and Emmalee Case; Jantzen Case and Kahi Piland all of Atmore, AL. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Xavier and Isabella Buckhault and Sawyer Freeman.

Lonnie loved his big family, treasuring each member in his own unique and special way. Above all, his heart belonged to Darlene, whom he loved and cherished for over 50 years. As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that he and Darlene are together again, fishing in heaven-or maybe riding through the clouds, feeling the wind in their hair and the freedom of the open sky.

A celebration of Lonnie's life will be held at a later date

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor his memory by sharing a meal with loved ones, helping a friend in need or taking a ride down an open road in his name.

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
