Carl Ernest HenryI am a Veteran.

of North Little Rock, AR

May 12, 1935 - January 4, 2025

Carl Ernest Henry, 89, of North Little Rock passed away on January 4, 2025.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Bill Henry and Brothers, William, Wayne and Gale.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruby; son, Richard Henry (Roben); daughters, Carla Greenway (D.A) and Tamara Henry; siblings, Brenda Davis (Jerry) and Wendell Henry (Jo Dean); grandchildren, Brooke Nalley (Chuck), Jessica Holmes (Ryan), Holly Lar (Scott), Beck Greenway (Adam) and Joe Holmes (Megan); great-grandchildren, Henry Nalley, Olivia Nalley, Jillian Holmes, Parker Holmes, Daniel Holmes, Ethan Lar and Harrison Lar and many nieces and nephews; along with many special friends.

Carl coached baseball, football and basketball to young boys in North Little Rock for over 40 years. Carl remained in touch with a few of his players and spoke often. Carl loved sports and wanted to share that with his players and made sure they got the opportunity to play, regardless of circumstances, which included rides to and from practice in the old red truck. Carl was born in Zoe, Oklahoma and lived in Mena until he married the love of his life, Ruby in 1956, where they lived in Millington, Tennessee, Hutchinson, Kansas and eventually remained in North Little Rock. Many of those years were spent at Burns Park, where he coached football and baseball. Eventually, the little league baseball field was named Carl Henry Field, in honor of the time he spent mentoring these young boys 6 to 13. This was his passion and it remained strong.

Carl was in the Navy for six years and during that time he was stationed in Kwajalein Atoll Island for a time.

A funeral service will be held on at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12th at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock, Arkansas with a visitation taking place one hour prior to service. Interment will be at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, January 15th at noon, with military honors presented.

Carl was such a special person! We worked together for only a year about 15 years ago! But he has always had a special place in my life ever since then! Though we never saw each other in person again after that brief time working together. He continued over the course of all those years to call and check up on me. He was one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Every few months he would call and check in to see how myself and my family were doing. I will forever cherish our phone conversations. Even though they were very short and mostly about how everyone was doing and either football or baseball. They meant so much! I feel so blessed to have known him. My condolences to his family and deepest sympathies. He will be missed!

What can I say. This man will truly be missed. He was a father figure to me in little league. From Coach Carl I learned what it means to be sensitive yet competitive. I’m so sorry Ms Ruby and man I so wish I could talk to him one more time. I love and loved Carl so much. He taught me how to become a man. God Bless Coach Carl a man who could never be replaced.

Sorry for NLR's loss. Coach Henry coached our younger son, Stephen (50) and drafted Carolyn to work in concession stand at Burns Park (OLD field/stadium) and to provide rides home for various teammates. Saw him often at Kroger, but have lost touch last couple of years. Have thought about him when we pass his house and when we pass ballfield.

He kept up with me throughout my playing days and even when I followed in his footsteps and became a youth coach like him.
