Lila Mae Grist. 89, of Charleston, Arkansas passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
Lila was born June 20, 1935 in Paris, Arkansas to her parents, Elmer Kuykendall and Bessie (Kile) Kuykendall. She worked as a secretary for the Hermiston Herald Newspaper in Oregon. After moving to Arkansas she worked for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Franklin County Cooperative Extension Service office for nineteen years. Lila was a devout member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) Organization. She enjoyed going to yard sales, collecting purses, butterflies and dolls, reading books and magazines, listening to bluegrass music and traveling with her family and friends to various places. Her greatest love was taking care of her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of seventy years, Clayton Eugene Grist; a son, Jimmy Grist; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Jones and two brothers, Floyd G. and Edsel L. Kuykendall.
She is survived by her two sons, Glyndon ''Glyn'' Grist and Charles Grist I both of Charleston, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Brittany Wilson and husband, Brad of Charleston, Jessica Grist of Charleston, Arkansas and Charles Grist II of Van Buren, Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren, Brynlea Wilson, Bryant Wilson, Erica Smalley, Levi Grist, Allister Jones, Tristan Jones, Brayden Grist and Chelsey Grist; other family members and friends.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel.
