Ernest Weldon Smith, of Shirley, Arkansas, died on Monday, November 18, 2024 at The Springs of Fairfield Bay. He was 92. Weldon was born on October 5, 1932 in St. John, Kansas.

He graduated from Shawnee High School, Oklahoma, attended the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Weldon married Dolora Ann Vaughn, and together they had 2 children, Sabrina Candace and Ernest Weldon, Jr. The marriage ended in divorce.

Weldon retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Postmaster in Shirley, Arkansas. He also worked part time at radio station KFFB Timeless 106.1 FM as the weekend weatherman. Weldon served as Chairman of the Van Buren County Water Board. He served time on the Shirley City Council. He was President of the Fairfield Bay Little Theatre and performed in over 15 productions. Weldon also served as a Manager at the Fairfield Bay Racquet Club. He served as Worshipful Master at the Sam Williams Masonic Lodge #89. Weldon was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Conflict. He was a charter member of the Fairfield Bay Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed.

Weldon is survived by his daughter Candy (Steve Spademan) of Austin, Texas and son Ernie (Jan Lazarus) of Shirley, Arkansas along with two grandchildren, Sean Spademan (Malayna Tolley Spademan) of Richmond, Virginia and Sarah Spademan of Austin, Texas, step grandson, Ian Lazarus of Takoma Park, Maryland and two great grandchildren, Leyton and Callan Spademan of Richmond, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial donations may be made in Weldon Smith's name to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Weldon was such a cheerful, pleasant guy. Lived next to him and Ann for a time, they were such gracious neighbors. Prayers for those loved ones left behind.
