Myrian Charlotte Matthews

of Marion, AR

February 21, 1949 - November 15, 2024

Myrian Charlotte Matthews went home to her Lord and Savior on November 14, 2024, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. Myrian was 75 years old. She was born to Doyle H. and Johnnie Black in Springfield, MO on February 21, 1949.

Myrian was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Bob Black of Jackson, MS, Bill Black of Walderon, AR, Gary Black of Richmond, VA, and her sister Linda Quoss of Ft. Smith, AR.

Myrian grew up in Ft. Smith, AR and attended West Ark Community College where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She completed her degree in Education at Arkansas Tech University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She then taught history and social studies at Hughes High School in Hughes, AR. In 1977, Myrian and Rick married and moved to Marion, AR where she worked for a local printing company, the local newspaper as Society Editor, and eventually the family business Matthews & Son Glass. She was an active member of Rosewood United Methodist Church until illness prevented her from attending.

Myrian is survived by her husband, Rick Matthews of 46 years and 11 months, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by a host of nephews and nieces.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Lupus Foundation of America, the ASPCA, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Rick, we are so heartbroken for the loss of Myrian. She was the love of your life. She was a very good sister-in-law and I will miss her greatly. Just know your family and our Savior loves you.
