of Shirley, AR
August 10, 1939 - November 7, 2024
Charles Eugene Smith, 85, of Shirley, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2024. Charlie was born and raised in Van Buren County, Arkansas and spent his youth working the family farm on the banks of the South Fork of the Little Red River. After graduating from Clinton High School, Charlie enlisted and served in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Glenda Smith, in 1958. While in the Army, he got to see the world while serving overseas. Upon fulfilment of his Army contract, Charlie spent his career in the banking industry before retiring to raise cattle on the family farm with his wife and brothers. Charlie was an avid fisherman, rancher and a friend to anyone who knew him. He always enjoyed an old bluegrass song, a sunny Ozark morning, fine Charolais cattle, powwows and a good domino game. He was a longstanding member of the Pee Dee Baptist Church and the Democratic Party.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Glenda Smith; his brother Ed Smith; his aunt, Vernice Harness and many friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Wayde Smith, his parents, Loyd Smith and Leon Smith and his brother, Tom Smith.
Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 14,2024 at Pee Dee Baptist Church in Clinton, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pee Dee Baptist Church or the Pee Dee Cemetery.
