Huey "Red" Gilbert

of Mountain View, AR

December 16, 1927 - October 21, 2024

Huey ''Red'' Gilbert, 96, passed from this life on Monday, October 21, 2024. He was born on Thursday December 16, 1927, to Noles and Bertha (George) Gilbert in Timbo, Arkansas. Red loved gardening, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler as well as raising cows, hogs and chickens, but he found the most joy in spending time with his family and friends. He was always on the go but he never hesitated to stop and visit with people and share his advice. As he got older he enjoyed sitting on his front porch or visiting the Senior center during the day and venturing downtown to listen to music at different locations around the square in the evenings. He worked for Armor Packing, GMAC, and drove cars for Buddy Lackey but he was best known for his fruit stand where he sold the best peaches, tomatoes and sweet potatoes around. Red was also known fondly as the ''dumpling maker'' as his dumplings were a favorite at any potluck or family event. He was a member of Vine Avenue Baptist Church. Red will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.

Red is survived by his children, Brenda (Roger) Wilson, Gary Gilbert, Teresa Weatherford, and Russell (Sara) Gilbert; brother, Eugene Gilbert and sister, Dorothy Wallis; son-in-law, Scott Branscum; twelve grandchildren, Kathy (James) Ramsey, Crissie (Brad) Kane, Linda (Josh) Vickers, Angela Campagna, Kalah (Chris) Deitrick, Kassie McIntare, Jay (Sarah) Weatherford, Timber Gilbert, Doss Weatherford, Cheyenne Gilbert, Angelina Neldon, and Nickolas Neldon; eighteen great-grandchildren, Heather (Ethan) Pollard, Elijah Gibson, Elizabeth (Dustin) Porterfield, Gabriel (Nathan) Childers, Cassidee (Brock) Simons, Katie Croney, Rachel Ramsey, Kimberly (Landon) Mc Intyre, Mabry Deitrick, Kiley Deitrick, Bella Campagna, Sophia Deitrick, Parrish McIntare, Lily McIntare, Addison Miller, Liam Weatherford, Lilah Weatherford, and Kori Henley; seven great-great grandchildren, Audrey Childers, Avalon Jones, Ember Mc Intyre, Elaina Phillips, Daniel Childers, Elias Phillips, and Kayden Porterfield, along with many extended family and friends.

Red is preceded in death by his parents, Noles and Bertha (George) Gilbert; his loving wife of 74 years, Dosha (Trammell) Gilbert; daughter, Patty Branscum; siblings, Olan Gilbert, Nolan Gilbert, Roy Gilbert, Danny Ray Gilbert, Evelyn Declue, Sylvia ''Sybil'' Green, Thelma Green, and Alene Dulaney and grandson Neal Branscum.

Visitation is Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 6:00-8:00PM at Vine Avenue Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, 10:00AM at Vine Avenue Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas with Brother Gary Don Fletcher officiating. Red will be cremated and laid to rest next to his wife, Dosha (Trammell) Gilbert at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newnata, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Chris Deitrick, Roger Wilson, Jay Weatherford, Doss Weatherford, Nick Neldon, Craig Miller, and James Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers are Eldo Fletcher, Scotty Branscum, David Owens, Johnny Owens, and David Wright.

I have such fond memories of Uncle Nolan taking us kids to visit Uncle Red. He was a good man and although I wasn't blood that never stopped him from showing me he cared about me too. Every time I saw him, I got a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. He will be missed by all that knew him. I will sure be keeping all of the family in my prayers. Sending hugs and love to each of you.
