of North Little Rock, AR
October 6, 1945 - October 2, 2024
William Henry Lukas, 78, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2024 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.
William (Bill) was born on October 6th, 1945 to Frank and Maurine Lukas. Bill grew up in North Little Rock with his brothers and cousins.
After Bill graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1963, he went on to serve four years in the United States Navy, while being stationed in San Diego, California. Bill married his sweetheart, Loretta Gail Short, in 1968. Bill and Loretta met in North Little Rock and she moved to San Diego while Bill served in the Navy.
Bill went on to work as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. Bill was dedicated to his job and worked in snow and rain until the day he retired. Bill was always thrilled when the old steam engines would pass through town. He would never cross a train track without slowing down to look both ways.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Loretta; daughter, Melissa Scoggins of Sherwood; son, Mark Lukas (Paula) of Sherwood; grandchildren, Ashlyn Scoggins, Laken Etherington (Andrew) and River Lukas. Bill had one great granddaughter, Della Jo Etherington. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maurine Lukas; son-in-law, Danny Scoggins and his two brothers, Tom and Jim Lukas.
Bill served as a Deacon, Choir Member and Youth Group Staff Member for many years at Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock and was a current member of That.Church in Sherwood. Serving God and being faithful to his church were always important to Bill.
Bill spent his time after retirement playing golf with friends and family. However, the most important job Bill would say he ever had was being ''Papa''. He loved his grandchildren. (But they loved him more!)
Visitation will be held at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock on Wednesday, October 9th at 9:30 a.m., with the service immediately following at 10:30 a.m. led by Bro. Mitch Vickers. Bill will be laid to rest at 12:00 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
The family would like to thank you for being here to celebrate the life of such an amazing man!
Matthew 25:23 Well done, good and faithful servant! Enter thou into the joy of the Lord!

To Loretta, Mark and Melissa
Deepest sympathy for the loss of Bill. Would be there for you but only got word this morning. Mark is particularly shaken by his passing. He has such wonderful memories of Bill. Mine don't go back as far since I didn't know him until our marriage when Bill was his best man.
Bill will always be a wonderful memory for us. We both offer our love to you all.
Dear ones, I am so sorry to hear that this wonderful friend has passed away. When I worked for Levy Baptist Church he would step into the office and we would chat for a few minutes. He was a caring christian man . He was always helping the church along with his sweet wife Loretta helping with many projects. To many to list.
To Loretta, Melissa and Mark- you had a wonderful husband and Dad. As for a Papaw, I am sure he was wonderful teaching them about Jesus. Having to Conway I never got to meet his previous grandchildren.
May God grant each one of you and your families peace and comfort in the days ahead. Hugs to all . Donna
