Harold Dean Parks

of North Little Rock, AR

September 26, 1932 - September 3, 2024

Harold Dean Parks, 91, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 in North Little Rock. He was born at 3:30 in the morning on September 26, 1932 in Prairie View to his parents, Bartley Sherman and Bertha Marie (Scrudder) Parks.

Harold, also known as Dean, worked hard on the family's farm growing up. He graduated from Paris High School in 1950. Harold met Mary Janice Chadwick on a blind date on Valentine's Day and they married the next year on Easter Sunday at the Methodist Church in Gillett, Arkansas. The next day, he started classes at Arkansas Polytechnic College. He worked for Warren Petroleum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Harold taught business classes, was the class sponsor and became the principal at Scranton High School from 1957 to 1967. Harold and Janice raised their son, Barry Sherman, as Harold worked and earned his Master's degree in Education from Henderson State University and an MBA from Indiana University. Over the years, he worked as a legislative auditor for the Arkansas Department of Education, the Federal Reserve Bank and the Booneville Sanatorium. He owned his own microfilm business under Kodak for many years until computers came along. After the passing of his wife and their son, he kept himself busy learning the real estate business and he worked hard at that from 1989 until the present.

Harold believed, that if you are able, you should help people to better themselves. He watched for opportunities to make a difference. He was truly passionate about donating to charities especially Arkansas Children's Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He was a perpetual member of the Masonic Lodge and he was a Christian. Harold and his extended family appreciated all of the help that he received from his friends and medical personnel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bartley Sherman and Bertha Marie (Scrudder) Parks, his wife, Mary Janice (Chadwick) Parks, and one son, Barry Sherman Parks.

Mr. Parks was the principal and business teacher at Scranton High school when I knew him. He was also our class sponsor. Our class loved him and gave him lots of trouble. He always gave us advice to prepare us graduation. He attended all of our class reunions. Thank you for all the memories!
