Clarence Phillip ''Pete'' Crippen, 88, of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, peacefully in his sleep. He was born on February 16, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Mitchell Edward and Vena Marie Henson Crippen.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Pete completed a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and married Martha Virginia ''Ginger'' Wallace in 1961. He then began a successful career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which culminated with his role as the Chief of Hydroelectric Power Generation at Bulls Shoals and Norfolk Powerhouses. Next, he earned an Associate Degree in Funeral Science from Arkansas State University in Mountain Home, which he put to use in his second career with the Roller Funeral Home. Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville was a great place for his retirement, where employees and friends appreciated his pleasant mannerisms and dry wit. Pete was a lifelong Methodist who led in many lay capacities in the church, including as youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and board chairman. An Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member in his youth, Pete went on to serve as a Scout Leader for his sons' generation.
He is preceded in his death by his parents, his younger brother William ''Bill'' Crippen, and his older sister Betty Jo Gammon. He is survived by his wife Ginger Crippen, their sons John Crippen (Ramona) and Phillip Crippen (Michele), and his twin grandchildren Alise and Andrew Crippen.
The family will hold a visitation and memorial service on October 17, 2024, in Mountain Home at Roller Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

1965 I was invited with My Bill to Pete & Gingers home in Little Rock. We played cards with John Ed in the crib. It was a fun evening for us both. It was a great way to see a very happy married couple.

Pete was a friend & mentor when I began working in Hydropower. I can't say enough about his kind manner & wit. "Pete" stories are still circulating at Bull Shoals & Norfork power plants and Mountain Home Project Office.
