Steve Hinkson passed away at his home in Clinton, Arkansas on August 17th at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by Susan, his wife of 31 years, in 2003. Steve was also preceded in death by his younger brother, Willis. He is survived by his three sons, Sam, Jake and JR. He is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Hester and his brothers, Jack and Herbert.

Born in 1944 to John and Mary Hinkson, Wilbert Stephen Hinkson spent his life building things. The third of five children, as a boy, he built soldier forts to play in with his younger brothers. After serving in the Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970-where he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry-he returned home to Arkansas and began to build a life. Steve married Susan Irene Paschal in 1972. While he was a strikingly handsome man and she was a beautiful woman, they somehow managed to produce three sons of only modest good looks.

After working for a time as a baker in Little Rock, Steve moved his family to Clinton in 1989. Soon, he began building houses. For decades he worked as an accomplished housebuilder and cabinetmaker across Arkansas. He was always looking ahead to the next house he wanted to build. Long after he was physically able to wield a hammer, he was still planning building projects.

Steve and Susan built their family the same way Steve built houses, with attention and care. The foundation of their family was their faith in Jesus Christ and they raised their sons in a house full of faith, hope and love. Having been deemed as ''one of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom'', Steve served as a deacon at Clinton First Baptist Church for nearly thirty years. After Susan's passing in 2003, his involvement with his church only deepened. Every morning, he could be found on his porch, reading his Bible and preparing his lesson for Sunday School.

Steve will be remembered by all who knew him as a man who worked hard and laughed easily. He valued honest labor, good gospel music and small dogs with big personalities. His life is a testament to faith, purpose and integrity.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Clinton. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the Church. Burial, with military honors, will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock, AR.
