James Marks Henry Sr., 89, of North Little Rock passed away August 15, 2024. He was born on September 19, 1934 in Little Rock, Arkansas to James Allen Henry, Jr. and Doris Marks Owens Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dona Gail Suggs Henry and his brother, Robert Henry.
In his youth, James was a member of the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He later became a member of the DeMolay Organization. He was Past Master of Big Rock Masonic Lodge #633. James attended the Little Rock University (University of Arkansas of Little Rock) and the University of Arkansas of Fayetteville, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He worked at Owens Funeral Home, Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth and the Arkansas State Department of Parks and Tourism. He enjoyed astronomy and was a member of the Mid-South Astronomical Society.
James was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church.
James is survived by his brother, Val (Elaine) Henry of Sherwood; his children, Allen Henry (Paris) of Franklin, Tennessee, Dobby Webb (James) of Arlington, Texas, Marks Henry of South Haven, Mississippi and Max Henry (Tina) of Liberty, Missouri. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Jack Henry, Christine Poole, Leslie Luttrell, Brian Webb, Elizabeth Jones, Justin Henry and Adrienne O'Sullivan and thirteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and funeral services on Monday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m. both at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, Davis Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock.

I have had the pleasure of hearing Jim tell stories about his life and family, each time bringing different photos and objects to show me. We are grateful to Jim for building up the Owens-Henry Collection at the North Little Rock History Commission. I will miss his visits and stories.

Jim was one of the kindest souls I’ve yet to meet. He told me stories of drag racing with my late grandfather and camping with my grandparents. He became a true friend of mine as well. He loved his family fiercely. So so proud of them. They are all in my prayers.

My memories of Mr. Henry are many and rich. He was a role model for us all and a gentle and loving friend. Many conversations on Sunday mornings prior to service at Lakewood UMC remain some of my most interesting opportunities to learn and grow and joyful memories of his wit and knowledge. He loved his family and always kept me up to date on the adventures of Allen and his family. I will miss his bright smile and joyful sharings but know he is at home with his wife and ancestors. Nothing but found memories, when I look back at the good times spent with Jim. From birthday gatherings to Thanksgiving, he was always so kind, warm, and welcoming! I’ll never forget his love for Mickey Mouse and the collection that he acquired.
