William Noel Williams

of West Memphis, AR

September 29, 1959 - August 12, 2024

William ''Bill'' Noel Williams passed away at home with family on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the age of sixty-four.

Bill was born on September 29, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald ''Don'' and Norma Williams. He was the second of five children and the only whose first name did not begin with the letter ''D''.

Bill was a storyteller at heart and loved to have an engaged and captive audience. Many of the stories he told were gained through his various jobs as a sandwich artist, door-to-door Bible salesman in Oklahoma, working with dangerous chemicals in Alabama, volunteer Shelby County Sheriff's deputy, electrician and eventually electrical contractor in the Memphis area.

Bill was not one to spend his time relaxing and kept himself busy with many hobbies and volunteer work. He was a black belt in Judo, performed in several plays and musicals with The Little Theater of Crittenden County, volunteered with Southern Reigns (an equine therapy facility in Collierville, TN), was a Tiger's football season ticket holder and an avid fisherman, hunter, cyclist and runner. His favorite past-time was spending time with his grandchildren and attending their various activities.

Bill was preceded in death by his dad, Don and best dog, Baxter.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pam; his daughter, Amie Hamling and her husband, Ryan; his grandchildren, Harry and Hazel; his mom, Norma Williams; his brother, Doug (Lisa) and sisters, Denise (Mark), Deanna (Alan) and Donna (Steve); his best friend, Randy and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at Missouri Street Church of Christ in West Memphis, Arkansas on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy.

Bill was one of the first folks who welcomed me when I came to Memphis with Teach For America. I met him through riverfront Bootcamp and he was always the cheerleader for us all. What a great human who will be missed greatly.

It has probably been a decade or more since I have seen Bill, but I will always remember him so fondly. He was best friends with a good friend of mine and I got to know him back in the 80's when he was the referee for some of our men's league basketball games. He was so much fun to just be around and was always the center of attention in any room. Prayers being sent for our mutual buddy Randy and of course for Pam, Amie and the rest of the family. Take comfort in knowing that he is in a much, much better place.

Bill joined my Marine Corps style fitness program 8 or 9 years ago. We hit it off right from the start and he made friends in the group immediately. Everyone loved him. Bill and I discovered that we were both Judo black belts and had a love for Japan. That was a rare combination for me! We both loved the outdoors and nature. And we both loved to tell stories. I loved his stories and hoped he loved mine too. He was one of a kind. He was one of the good guys and all of us are heartbroken and will always miss him.

Bill was a loyal friend and treasured hunting partner. We shared lots of hours in the Blind shooting ducks or just sharing stories from the days gone by. Best wishes to Pam, Amy and the family.

Amie and Pam,

Bill and your family was loved by The Wilkerson family. Y'all were like family to us.

As one of the head coaches of Frayer Judo Club he had a great influence on kids and adults. He helped train us for competition. Even me, he would work with me and push me to be the best me. He traveled with my parents and the club as coach to many states for tournaments.

Dad and Bill would take them to dads property in Sheridan, Ar. They did this to take the kids camping. He helped teach them how to fish at the pond. And I am
Sure he and dad had fun telling them stories.

He also was full of joy and inspiring others. I remember him singing while working out. He was instrumental in many young kids life.

But what I will remember most is his love for his family. The last time I spoke with him he told me how you and Pam were and said he loved having you close by and being a grandpa.

Praying for all of you.

Pam, Amy and family...I can not express to you adequately how sorry I am for your loss. Bill will be remembered as a wonderful Christian friend by our family. Always ready to smile even while going through trials we could not imagine he encouraged others with his wonderful attitude and devotion to God and his family. My sincere prayers for each of you.
