Emily Laura Rogers

of Conway, AR

July 17, 1938 - August 7, 2024

Emily was born on July 17, 1938, in Vacherie, Louisiana to Roland Waguespack, Sr. and Mae (Melancon) Waguespack and following a long illness, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024, in Conway, Arkansas.

Emily grew up on a farm in South Louisiana. During her childhood, a favorite pastime was walking on the levee in the evenings and watching the ships in the Mississippi River. She was a good cook and seamstress. She loved listening to music. She graduated from St. James High School in St. James Parish, Louisiana in 1956. One of her most memorable events was her 50th High School class reunion in 2006 and her classmates gathered again to help celebrate her 80th birthday in 2018.

Emily was married to Donald K. Rogers on December 31, 1960, at St. Philip Catholic Church in Vacherie. They had three children, Michael Rogers of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Lorrie (Rogers) Richardson of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Susan (Rogers) Shrell of Maumelle, Arkansas.

During her marriage to Don they moved from Kenner, Louisiana to Forrest City, Arkansas, then to Center, Texas, Jackson, Tennessee, Warren, Arkansas and Searcy, Arkansas. Emily worked for JCPenney in Searcy from 1984 until she retired in 2008.

Emily was a faithful member and involved in many activities at St. James Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at White County Medical Center in their hospital auxiliary. Even when they weren't having winning seasons, she always cheered for the Razorbacks and the Saints. Emily enjoyed reading and passed this joy of reading on to her children and grandchildren. She always looked forward to visiting her hometown of Vacherie for time with extended family, lots of laughter and seafood.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Sr. and Mae Waguespack; her brothers, sisters/brothers in law, Burke & Betty Waguespack, Leon & Esther Waguespack, Peter Waguespack, Anthony Waguespack, Lucien Faucheux, and Francis Hymel, Sr.

Emily is survived by many loved ones including son, Michael Rogers; grandchildren, Tim Rogers, Ben (Katherine) Rogers, Caitlin (Rylie) Akins and great grandchildren, Liam, Penelope and Margot Akins; daughter, Dr. Lorrie (Jim) Richardson and grandchildren, Dr. Hilary Richardson, Molly (Lake V) Moore, and Jack Richardson; daughter, Susan (Richard) Shrell and grandchildren, Haley Shrell, Hanna Shrell, and Hope Shrell; siblings, Joyce Faucheux, Dr. Roland (Carol) Waguespack, Jr., Sylvia Hymel and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 16, 2024, at noon at St. James Catholic Church, Searcy, Arkansas. Interment will take place at a future date at St. Philip Catholic Parish Cemetery in Vacherie, Louisiana. The family wishes to thank the care providers of Willow Grove Assisted Living of Maumelle and Superior Health and Rehabilitation of Conway
