Don Elwood Avra, 84, of Vilonia, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. He was born on December 8, 1939 in Hamlett, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, LA and Anna Lou Avra. He married Shirley (Ritchey) Avra on September 11, 1965 in Pacific, Missouri. Don served in the United States military from 1962 to 1965, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for a good part of his service. Don was in the HVAC maintenance department at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas for 43 years. He was an ordained deacon at Sunny Gap Baptist Church, he was a dedicated member of their congregation for 25 years. He was a God-fearing man, he didn't speak often but when he did, you'd do good to listen. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch to wave at anyone who passed, watching old Westerns, listening to Don Williams, rooting for the Cubs and spending treasured time with friends and family.
Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Avra; children, Angela (Charles) Seeburger and Melanie (Todd) Mace; grandchildren, Courtney (Jacob) Fenske, Raydyn (Noah) French and Ian Mace; sisters, Wanona Ruple, Shelia Avra and numerous friends and loved ones.
Don's life will be honored and celebrated on Monday, August 12th, 2024 at 10:00am, there will be a visitation held the night before from 5:00-7:00 on August 11th, both to be held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, Arkansas.
Burial will follow at Beryl Cemetery in Vilonia, Arkansas. Pallbearers will include Austin Ritchey, John Brown, Nathan Rappold, Weston Ritchey, Drew Ritchey, Brandon Harris, Shawn Harris and Jayson Stell, Ed Norris will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
