Charles Guy MatthewsI am a Veteran.

of Clinton, AR

May 5, 1939 - July 29, 2024

We are grieved to announce the passing of our father, Charles Guy Matthews, on July 29, 2024 at our home in Clinton, Arkansas. Born on May 05, 1939, dad grew up in Dallas, Georgia with his parents and nine siblings. After school, he served in the United States Navy, including four tours to Vietnam. After the Navy, he engaged in several occupations (and several marriages) before settling upon truck driving, which he did until retiring at the age of 80. Dad loved spending his days after retirement sipping coffee on the porch while listening to the Trading Post program in the morning and listening to the dogs running rabbits or deer the remainder of the day.

Dad was a fixture on Grassy Hollow Road. Many people have stopped by asking after him because he hadn't been on the porch in some time. Sadly, he grew ill with Parkinson's disease and dementia which took a great toll on him and took him from us.

He is survived by his sons, Eric, Brook and Shawn; along with his grandchildren, Charles G. Matthews II, Amanda Matthews-Renforth, Mallory Patricia Sue Matthews, Shanna Matthews and Justin Matthews; as well as great-grandchildren, Rilya, Tyja, Sayana, Alyssa, Kayleigh, Ryan, Emma, Ethan, Dysen, Brookson, Bralie, Hadliey and Raine.

He is in our hearts and will be dearly missed.

A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 03, 2024 at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton. Military honors will be observed at 3:00 pm to honor his distinguished service to his country.

Matthews family, I'm sorry for your loss. I hadn’t seen Matt for a few years but I remember him fondly. He and Deniece were helpful to me and my daughter when we first got into horseback riding and were great fun to ride the trails with. Please accept my condolences.
