Herman ThompsonI am a Veteran.

of Bryant, AR

July 22, 1937 - July 28, 2024

Herman Thompson, 87, of Bryant, Arkansas passed away on July 28, 2024 peacefully at his home. He was born in Little Rock on July 22, 1937 to Herman L. Thompson and Nora Lee Oglesby Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ann Thompson; his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Alley and Cora Hughes and a special sister-in-law, Judy Smith. He is survived by his two children, Ashley Parker and her husband, Jimmy and Jason Thompson and his wife, Stephanie, as well as grandchildren, Korey Thompson and his fiancée Megan Moore, Madalynn Thompson and Brooklynn Parker and by one sister, Martha Archer. Other survivors include his nephew and niece, Justin and Kristin Smith and great-niece, Ryan Jude Smith, as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Herman enjoyed his morning coffee and 5 oatmeal iced cookies while on his porch where he spent time visiting with friends. He would extend a wave to all that drove by. If he wasn't visiting or talking on the phone he would be texting and reading Facebook that allowed him another way to keep up with everyone and what they were doing. He would make frequent stops to various departments at the school to visit some of his favorite people over the years to strike up a conversation or let them know what needed to be done around the school. He enjoyed his word search books, watching wrestling, Nascar, Shark Tank and the Motor Trend channel. He loved all sports including watching the Razorbacks. He enjoyed being outside working in his yard. He was very independent and would drive to pick up all his daily needs and an occasional wedding cake from the local snow cone stand. He loved to cook especially on Sundays and Holidays and expected everyone over at 2:00 each Sunday for a home cooked meal. Herman took great joy in his family and making sure they were all around and taken care of. If you were a friend or any friend of his kids, you always had an open invite to his home and full access to the kitchen.

Herman always served others and put them before himself. If you met him once or knew him for years, he considered you a friend for life. He loved his community, the Bryant School District and Hornet Athletics. He served 5-1/2 years on the Bryant School Board and was also active in the Booster Club. Many years ago, if you attended a Friday Night Hornet Football game, he would be the one firing the cannon. He was involved with the Bryant Optimist Club (Now Bryant Athletic Association) running the concession stand for many years. Later in life, you would find him working at the local polling sites for elections. Anything for Herman to be out and talking to others brought joy to his life. Herman received many awards from the various organizations he volunteered for and was proud of all of them, but he would say it was the people he worked with that helped make it so enjoyable. He received the 2014 Rob Patrick Award given out each year before the annual Salt Bowl.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31st from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services on Thursday, August 1st at 2:00 p.m., both at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home in Little Rock with Bryant Mayor Chris Treat officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. The Pallbearers will be Jon Harrison, Kyle Edmonson, Michael Catton, Jeff Potter, Scott Allison, Bryan Hudson and Honorary Pallbearer, Jason Rowton.

The family would like to extend thanks to Arkansas Hospice. Memorials may be made to the BAA or Bryant Athletic Department.

I knew Herman well when I was teaching at Bryant and when he was on the school board. He was always supportive of teachers and was a positive influence on education at all levels.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Family first but he loved this community so much. From the cannon to serving others, he always wanted to help. My daddy loved him and he loved my daddy. (And mom felt the same).
He will be missed for sure.
Til we meet again.

Herman Thompson (Ole Herm) was a staple to the kids of our generation. He was definitely a safe place to hangout, good for conversation, listening ear, and advice if requested (or even if not). He will be missed, but never forgotten. Fly high Herm!

Ashley n Jason, so very sorry, prayers for both n entire family. Throughly enjoyed working with Herman in the Bryant Concession Stands. Herman was in charge, I was just informed to keep up with the finances! Also, if I needed information on anything local, happening at school or city, I would visit with Herman. Herman was a special person ! Jamey
