of Center Ridge, AR
October 9, 1952 - July 16, 2024
David Michael ''Mike'' Howlett, 71, of Center Ridge, AR went to be with the Lord on July 16, 2024. He was born October 9, 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas. In his youth, Mike loved playing baseball, football and running track. He was a jack of all trades, working as a radio DJ, newspaper photographer and chimney sweep. He also worked as a machinist at Boeing in Wichita, KS for 40 years.
Mike was an active community member and loved working with youth as a Scoutmaster, baseball coach and church youth director. He enjoyed singing, woodworking, camping and road trips with his family. In retirement, Mike could always be found eating breakfast with his friends at the Bucket List Cafe. Mike's greatest joy was spending time with his wife of 47 years, Sharla, and their three children talking, laughing and playing card games (he always cheated). He was quick to share his faith in God and always available to listen to anyone's troubles. His generosity to his family, friends and even strangers knew no bounds.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Alice Howlett; birth mother, Eugenia Nicolulis Young; brother, Bobby Young and parents-in-law, Jimmy and Stella Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Sharla; children, David Howlett, Steffannie Howlett (Eric) and Shelby Shroff (Madhav); grandchildren, Beth Hegeman and Millie Shroff; siblings, Sharon Anderson (Andy), Debbie Schmelzle (Bob), Kelly Moore, Phyllis Brown (Steve) and Danny Young (Micki). He also leaves behind many beloved family members, his church family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Center Ridge, Arkansas. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund in Springfield, AR or a summer camp scholarship fund through the Boy Scouts of America Natural State Council (https://www.naturalstatecouncil.org/give).

Prayers goes out to his family. I was fortunate to know Mike in school during our teenage years. We ran track together. He was a very good 220-yard runner and I can still remember him finishing the run at the finish line. Rest in piece Mike.
This is not a “goodbye” to Mike, it is a “see you later.” My sincere condolences to Sharla and all family members. May God comfort your hearts and bring you peace.
PS In my mind’s eye, I can see Mike standing up there without any pain. He is singing in one of the men’s choirs. The harmony is heavenly.
When I speak of Uncle Mike, my boys know his as “the one that looks like Santa Claus”, bc when they met him for the first time they were toddlers & they genuinely thought he was Santa and this will always make me smile. Mike was a very kind man and his heart shines bright thru Sharla, David, Steff, & Shelby. Love & hugs
Our thoughts and prayers are with Howlett family.

We were so sorry to hear the news of cousin Mike's passing. You are all in our prayers. Happy that he's in the arms of Jesus now, waiting for us to join him one day. We love you all.
Mike, the Mike club just won't be the same without you. Gonna miss you old friend.
Prayers for the family. Going to miss seeing you visit Antioch missionary Baptist Church.
My condolences to the family. Specially Sharla. I’ve known Mike for all of the 47 years and then some before him and Sharla were married. One of the most loyal, conscientious human beings I’ve ever met. He was a very good man. I didn’t get to see a lot of him in the last several years since they moved. But when the name Mike came up, I always thought of Mike Hallet. Peace and love be with you, brother!
We loved Mike and always loved his greetings on Sunday and the hear him singing behind Rick and I at church . He will be truly missed .
I am so glad that Mike is at peace and not hurting. I am thankful that St vincents Hospital allowed his son David and his wife Sharla to stay with him in the ICU 24/7, as a former ICU nurse myself I have never seen anyone allowed to spend the night with their loved one. David told me the hospital staff was awesome to the family and Mike. My church family at Damascus has prayed for Mike daily and for the family. Knowing Mike was a Christian eases some of the pain of his loss.
I loved spending time with you and sharla as kids and so did my own kids. You will be missed. Thinking of you and your family.
I am sorry for your loss and pain, you all are in my prayers. Love you all
