Boyd "Skip" Anderson TackettI am a Veteran.

of Conway, AR

January 31, 1940 - July 13, 2024

Boyd Anderson ''Skip'' Tackett, 84, of Conway, AR, died on July 13, 2024. He was born January 31, 1940, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Boyd Anderson and Norma Armstrong Tackett and was raised in Nashville along with his sisters, Terri, Becky, and Toni. During this time the family relocated to Washington DC while Skip's father was serving in Congress and eventually ran for Governor. While in DC, Skip conducted tours of the White House. This position was a perfect fit for Skippy to meet hundreds of people and fine-tune his storytelling skills. The Tacketts eventually relocated to Texarkana in 1953 where Skip graduated from Arkansas High School and went on to play football for the Arkansas Razorbacks in 1958. Skip later graduated from the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. He practiced with family in Texarkana and other firms in Houston before settling in Conway with his wife, Stairley Post Tackett, in 1985.

Skip was preceded in death by many as his family and friends were shocked he lived as long as he did. He loved life and was grateful to enjoy the bounty it had to offer. From chicken fried steak, plates of purple-hull peas and cornbread, to a stiff drink of scotch, all topped with a delicious banana split. He considered life a party and not something to take too seriously.

Skip had a vibrant personality. He always had an idea to explore and a plan to plot. From emerald mines in South America to sugar cane farms in Nigeria, he explored them all and he had multiple stories about each one that always included a few big laughs.

He fought hard for the underdog and treated everyone with respect. His parents came from humble beginnings and although he was raised quite the opposite, as he aged he knew he took it for granted but he learned to appreciate all that he was given. He became very humble as he matured. He taught all of his children to seek justice in situations and be aware that we are all humans just trying to do the best we can. There was little judgment in him, if any at all.

The day before his life ended he raved about how lucky we all were to have been given lives that were charmed with financial independence, decent health, and intelligence. He was proud of his sisters, nephews, nieces, children, stepchildren and their families, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He felt fortunate in the friendships he made over his lifetime and often bragged about them. Skippy was generous with praise and often told people he appreciated and loved them. He shared his emotions freely and even in the worst of times would help people find joy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Visitation will be held one hour prior at 1:00 pm.

Skip and I grew up on the same brick street in Texarkana. I was a bit older but all the kids played together in the street. He could kick the old ball we played with a city block. He was great fun to be with. Later I married his secretary and we had a great life together. Skip was one of a kind and loved helping others. All those Tackett's were wonderful folks and had many friends.
Great parents were his mom and dad.

I'm sad to learn of Skip's passing. He's been a dear friend to me for many years. One of the funniest guys I've ever known. I used to love going to his office and visiting. It was an experience for sure. You couldn't just go in there and expect to leave in 5-10 minutes. It was an hour or more visit! His jokes, the stories about when he played Razorback football, and just the knowledge he had about life in general was quite impressive. He was an awesome lawyer...a fighter in the courtroom. A guy I highly respected. He's helped me on more than one occasion, and I'm grateful for his friendship. Every time I left his office, my ribs were sore from laughing. Skipper ole buddy....I will miss you! I look forward to seeing you again one day for more laughs. Rest easy dear friend.

Our world has lost a unique individual with the death of Skippy Tackett. He and I have been friends since Arkansas High School and The University of Arkansas until the present time. Skippy's incisive mind, quick sense of humor, love of southern cooking, football, and interest in both people and great ideas endured him to everyone he met. God, open your arms and smile as he arrives home with you.

I have had the pleasure of knowing thousands of great people in my life. Skip stays in the top percentage of them all. Every year when I plant my watermelon seeds, I laugh and think of him, (many of you know why). He taught me alot and always through a bright outlook filled with laughter. I would not be the samehad he and Stairley crossed my path. Godspeed.

We will all miss Skippy. Hope he and Norma are cooking up purple hull peas and corn bread in heaven. And don’t forget the butter beans for Boyd. Many memories of Norma’s great meals around the big table on Beech street.

Skip was one of my favorites! As a court reporter for the twentieth District for over 31 years, I worked with Skip a lot. He was always kind to me and it was always fun to be around him because of the stories and jokes! When we were in the old courthouse we were like family and Skippy was a large part of the family. Stirley, you are in my prayers and Skip will always be remembered with great joy!

Terri and Becky my heart goes out to you and your families. A Brother, like Skip, is
Special in so many aspects of our lives.
I am so sorry that you have lost him. I am praying for your happy memories to comfort you.
I still remember playing football with him on your yard in Nashville. He was so kind to a bratty seven year old girl. He would let me catch his pass and dare the boys to tackle me!!! He also let me ride behind him on his horse! I’m thankful to have known him! He was special.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have so many memories of Skippy and Sam living behind us on Broadmoor. I used to baby sit Justin and Tiffany. Mama and Daddy went to many gatherings where so many friends were including Skippy. When I was growing up, we called him Skippy. Luckily growing up I never had to use Skippy's talents as a lawyer. It's like it was just yesterday when the law firm was Tackett, Moore, Dowd and Harrellson. Time goes by so fast, and I am grateful for each and every one of them. Sending my love and prayers.
