of Clinton, AR

May 22, 1947 - July 14, 2024

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, Reverend Vaughn Douglas Marsden walked into the arms of Jesus. Vaughn was born on May 22, 1947 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to Harry Marsden and Gertrude Marsden Oakley.

Vaughn grew up in Carbondale, Pennsylvania and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. He went to college at Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee with a degree in education and became a high school history teacher in Sikeston, Missouri. In 1975, he married Lynda MacBride. After their marriage, Vaughn was called to go to seminary and became a United Methodist Minister. During his ministry he was the Conference Coordinator for the North Arkansas Conference Council on Youth Ministries and the Jurisdictional Coordinator for the South Central Jurisdictional Youth Ministries Organization. He loved youth ministries. This led him to take many youth tour trips to Washington DC and New York City and also many youth events throughout the years.

Vaughn loved the Arkansas Razorbacks, New York Yankees, and he loved to fish. His favorite was trout fishing on the Little Red. He always had a great fish story. He learned to tie his own flies and made many. Vaughn loved his family and was a strong Christian man. He had a very sarcastic sense of humor and was loved by many. Vaughn was the best dad, ''Bain'', brother, and uncle.

Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Jo Marsden and Donald and Gertrude Oakley, his wife, Lynda MacBride Marsden, John and Lenora MacBride, and his son-in-law, Wade Hall.

Vaughn is survived by his daughters, Annalisa Hall of Clinton, Arkansas and Reagan (Aaron) Smith of Sherwood, Arkansas, one grandson, Kalyn Clemons of Clinton, Arkansas, three granddaughters, Kendall Pounds of Clinton, Arkansas, Adalyn Hall of Clinton, Arkansas, and Savannah Smith of Sherwood, Arkansas, one great-granddaughter, Chealzea Clemons of Clinton, Arkansas, his sisters, Sharlyn (Dave) Krok of Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania, Faith Cook of Bowie, Maryland and Darlene (Rev. Bob) Smith of St. Joseph, Michigan, his brothers, Kevin Marsden of Scranton, Pennsylvania and Donald (Theresa) Oakley of Ashland, Pennsylvania, aunts, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Clinton United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Spires Cemetery at a later date.

A special thanks to Superior Manor Nursing and Gentiva Hospice.

I was so sorry to hear of Vaughn's passing. In the late 50"s, we played a lot of Basketball,Wiffle ball and Baseball together and had so much fun being outside enjoying nature. My prayers go out to his family and peace be with you.

Pastor Vaughn was a great pastor, preacher and teacher of scripture in a very practical way. He truly cared. It was under Vaughn's leadership, direction and compassion that I answered my call to ministry. He was also the preacher that baptized my daughter, Susie. R.I.P. Vaughn--you will be greatly missed!

I first met Vaughn while we were both doing youth ministry. It was a joy to spend time with him again while he pastored Clinton and I was at Mount Eagle. I appreciated his sense of humor, his sermons, and his theology.

The trout in heaven are not safe, and Vaughn's arrival signals feeding the multitudes will nit be a problem. Vaughn was a good man that did the Lord's work and helped those that he could. He will be long and fondly remembered. God bless his family and guide them through these times.
