Reginald Vintz Powell, age 88, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on July 8, 2024. Reggie was born in Lubbock, TX on February 15, 1936 to his parents, Bryant and Florice Smith Powell. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Hugh and Minnie Lee Catching Smith and A. Dolphus and Ella Biggs Powell of the Becton Community.
Reggie graduated from Abernathy High School in 1954 and from McMurry College in Abilene in 1958. After college, he served in the US Marine Corp before working as a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. After taking some art classes at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, he developed a great interest in sharing his love of art and decided to teach.
The family moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1974 and Reggie taught high school art in the Watson Chapel School District, later moving to the same position in the White Hall District. He completed additional art classes at UALR and received a Master's Degree in Art from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. After retirement, he was an art instructor at SEARK Community College and taught drawing and painting with the Southeast Arts and Science Center in Pine Bluff.
Reggie was always fascinated in creating art. Born and raised in the Texas South Plains area near Lubbock, he was first inspired to paint by the works of the cowboy paintings of the Southwest G. Harvey, Salinas, Remington, Russell, Kenneth Wyatt and others. Reggie's paintings are in collections throughout Arkansas and the region.
Reg is survived by his wife, Audrey, whom he married on June 2, 1963 in Dumas, Texas; two sons, Rod (Jenni) of Greenwood, Arkansas, Dale of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; one daughter, Lesley Haughaboo of Little Rock, Arkansas; 9 grandchildren, Jerod, Shane, Trent, Kassidy, Phillip and Madison Powell and Hannah Claire, Andrew and Blake Haughaboo; one brother, Dale of Abernathy and one sister, Kay (Leigh) Carter of Ruidoso, NM. In addition, he is survived by a sister-n-law, Wanda Powell of Amarillo, Texas and two brother-n-laws, Richard (Barbara) Ochs of Kingsland, Texas and George (Jo) Ochs of Hereford, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Reg is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carroll Dean; son-n-law, Brent Haughaboo and in-laws, Herman and Alice Ochs of Dumas, Texas.
A memorial service will be 10:00am on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Village United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village with Reverend Chris Hemund officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Village UMC, 200 Carmona Road, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas 71909 or a favorite charity.

Audrey, and family, I was sad to hear of this!! (Just read it in the Sunday paper) My thoughts and prayers go out to you and all of your family. It was great having you as neighbors. I have a picture of you, Reggie, and Lesley in my back yard, you played the music for mine and Glen's wedding! Reggie was such a good man, a great artist, and loved by all who knew him. May he rest in peace in the presence of God!

Audrey & family; my cousins Dale, Regina,Willa Kay & your extended families...So sorry for your loss of Reggie. Loved seeing his picture. I have so many wonderful memories growing up with you cousins when we all lived in Abernathy TX. Uncle Bryant & Aunt Florice were like second parents to Richard and me. Our families were close and enjoyed getting together. Reg, Dale, Carroll Dean & my brother Richard many times would aggravate their sweet little sisters Willa Kay & Dianne , but we made it through alive and well with precious memories. Dear Audrey and family,
I so enjoyed reading Reggie's Obituary and learning so many interesting things I did not know about him, and the wonderful legacy he left for his family and loved ones. Although I did not have the pleasure of knowing him personally, his name has come up so many times since I met you at Village United Methodist Church years ago. It was my pleasure to be in his company about a year ago when you hosted several of us for lunch on our way to Mission U. Extra love and grace are being sent to you and your family. I believe that your husband's presence will be there to support you through the years to come in ways you cannot yet know. I moved to HSV in 2007. Audrey mentored me in UMW and invited me to the School of Missions. One year when we roomed together, she commented that she never knew what to expect when she got home as Reggie might decide to paint or remodel part of the house. One time he knocked out part of a wall while she was gone. They respected each other with their different skills and interests and have a deep, trusting and committed love which will extend beyond the loss of her dear Reggie. Wish I could have seen more of his art!

Proud to have called Reg my brother-in-law all these years. I know that the last few years have not gone the way that he nor Audrey envisioned the end of life campaign...but take comfort in the fact that both had and have a strong Christian faith. Condolences to my sis, Rod, Dale, Lesley, Reg's brother and sister (Dale and Kay) and their families, all the grandchildren, nieces, nephews He was a good guy...Marine, fellow graduate of McMurry College (KIVA bird, I think), loved working for the Boy Scouts of America, more especially the outdoor and camping aspect of that job, making an impact on countless tudent lives through teaching his love of Art. And, in my opinion, a renowned artist. Several of his pieces hang in our home. We all know the old cliche that"He's in a far better place now". Never a truer thing spoken for my brother- in-law. Go high upon that mountain, Reg...we know how much you loved the mountains!

Mrs. Audrey, Rod, Dale, and Lesley, I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up, I spent almost more time at your house than my own. Mr. Reggie rotated between annoyed or amused at mine and Lesley’s antics!! I’ll always remember his dry sense of humor and his beautiful artwork. Sending love and prayers.
