James (Jim) George Limbird

of Little Rock, AR

August 4, 1951 - June 13, 2024

James ''Jim'' George Limbird, 72, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 13, 2024 in Little Rock, Arkansas after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda ''Mandy'' Limbird; his son, Nick Limbird (Tara) of Rogers, AR & his two daughters, Anna Limbird Olive (Jeff) of Alexander, AR & daughter, Kate Limbird of Little Rock, AR. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Chase & Tripp Olive & one granddaughter, Ellie Limbird; Two brothers, Bob Limbird (Connie) of Clarksville, AR & Mark Limbird (Karen) of Scranton, AR; sisters in law, Bonnie Limbird & Molly McDonough Cooper (Stan, dec.); nephew, Stanley E. Cooper, III (Tina) & niece, Eleanor (Cooper) Haliburton of Louisiana; as well as a host of other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Limbird Fiddler and brother, Mike Limbird .

Jim was born August 4, 1951 to Frank and Catherine ''Katy'' Connaughton Limbird in Paris, AR. The youngest of four brothers, he developed his grit and ''can-do'' attitude having survived being their guinea pig for many experiments and hair-brained schemes. Jim worked summers to afford his tuition at his high school alma mater, Subiaco Academy, a place and space in time he held very dear and with much pride. Here he made many memories, numerous lifelong friendships and earned five consecutive Golden Gloves of Arkansas titles. His high school annual describes him: ''right hand like a sledgehammer, head like a brick'', but friends and family knew him as a gentle and kind soul and a joyful optimist with a servant's heart.

After graduating from the University of Arkansas, Jim returned to Subiaco where he coached football and was named Man of the Year by the students. He moved to Little Rock where he worked as a social worker for the Arkansas Division of Youth Services and a drug and alcohol counselor at the Restore Unit. Later, he became the director of marketing for Southwest Hospital before eventually working for himself for many years.

Jim was devoted to his faith and was a member of the Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. He loved to read and began every morning reading his bible. He was an Oblate Novice of St. Benedict of Subiaco Abbey, a member of the Men's Club and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Council 812. Through the years, he enjoyed mentoring, coaching youth softball and basketball and refereeing and judging silver and golden gloves boxing matches. He always believed it was important to use the sport to develop the child and not the other way around.

Jim loved tinkering in his shed, working in the yard or with his brothers on the farm, tending to his bees and closing the day with a cold beer. He looked forward to winters at the duck club in Slovak with his Subiaco buddies, where the tales were tall and the libations numerous. He was immensely proud of his family. Nothing brought him greater fulfillment and joy than being a husband and father and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jim will be fondly remembered for his playful nature, his always sunny disposition, his words of encouragement, his compassion for others and his devotion to Jesus. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know him, may he rest in peace.

A rosary will be held Wednesday, June 19th at 6:30pm at Holy Souls Church. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 20th at 10am at Holy Souls Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Subiaco Academy or the Arkansas Alzheimer's Association.

So many fond memories of this wonderful man. Visits with Jim would leave you with a smile and a funny, entertaining story you couldn’t wait to share with someone. One of my favorites was the one Jim would tell about moving his bees from Little Rock to Paris. He was such a kind, sincere man and always made your life better. Mandy, I’m so sorry for your loss.
He is with God now and he will always be with you. God bless you and may Jim rest in peace.

I was fortunate to have Jim and Mandy as my neighbor for many years and my wife Mindy and I enjoyed watching the kids grow up over the years. Jim was a a strong, yet gentle man I had the privilege of chatting across the fence with over the years, always met at the end of the winter with " welcome to the spring thaw."
I also was amazed how many friends we both had in common, usually my friends on the losing side of running into Jim (football) or made the mistake boxing!
Jim was a man, filled with goodness and love.
We know Heaven is a better place with Jim on the team.
God Bless Jim, Mandy and family,

Jim had a great impact on me. Upon his return to Subiaco in 1973 we became fast friends.

Jim had a special education psychology class that was limited to about six of us which brought us together like a small family unit. It is one of my most memorable experiences.
He never forgot me or our conversations from decades before.

Rest well my brother Trojan and thanks for all the amazing memories.

Mandy, I’m so sorry to hear about Jim. He was a great man. We were blessed to have him as a vital member of the Hope Center Board of Directors for over 14 years. His wisdom and expertise was a driving force for so many of the decisions that were made.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Only met Jim a few times since the early 80s and he was as interesting as he was kind.

Of course in recent years Alzheimer’s took control and Jim wasn’t Jim anymore. I’m glad I got to see him during the recent total eclipse. RIP Jim!

Jim was my second cousin and one of my best friends in our youth. We went to St Joseph grade school. He was one year ahead of me. Can’t believe all the stories that are racing through my mind about this man. Campouts, visiting in his home with Katy, who always provided sound advice, boxing with him at Subiaco, Father Nick and jeep rides at Christmas to find mistletoe, him not smelling to good in the summer after working at the rendering plant, being his roommate at the U of A my Sophomore year, scooping out white bass by hand at night on the White River, trips to UCA to visit Albert, going to Kansas to visit Mark, Fridays enjoying beer withSchmaltz , Plumber, Hooks, Kaufman and many more.Well you can get it. A painful loss but the memories remain.
