Carolyn McHenry

of Plano, TX

August 22, 1944 - June 10, 2024

Carolyn Aline Reedy McHenry (affectionately known as Mawmaw), aged 79, of Plano, Texas peacefully passed away to her eternal home on Monday, June 10, 2024. Born on August 22, 1944 in Conway, Arkansas, she was the cherished daughter of Clarence Henry Reedy and Eunice Mae Bush Reedy.

Carolyn attended Conway High School and proudly graduated in 1962. That same year, her and Joe McHenry, a fellow Conway native, were married. Together, they welcomed two children into their lives, Dee Ann and Mark. In 1966, they embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Garland, Texas.

After the family moved to Texas, Carolyn held many jobs from her days at Fotomat to her tenure as a fitness instructor and manager of a dress shop, but her favorite job was taking care of her family and raising her kids. Carolyn loved traveling, indulging in shopping excursions and above all, cherishing precious moments with her loved ones, especially her adored grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. She loved unconditionally and accepted all people and welcomed their differences.

Carolyn's love language was gift giving, and she loved to share her many blessings with those around her.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Henry Reedy and Eunice Mae Bush Reedy, as well as her siblings, J H Reedy, Vancel Paul Reedy, Betty Sue Reedy Linn and their respective spouses.

She is survived by her devoted sister, Reva Jo Reedy Braley Hayes and husband, Bill Hayes of Conway, Arkansas; her loving daughter, Dee Ann McHenry Poteet of Plano, Texas; her adoring son, Mark McHenry, and wife, Traci McHenry of McKinney, Texas; her grandchildren, Dalton Poteet and wife, Megan Poteet of Fate, Texas, Rylee McHenry and Ryan McHenry of Plano, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and aides of Settlers Ridge Memory Care Center for their tender care. They also express deep appreciation to Carolyn's lifelong friends, Sharon Smith, Kay Cardin and Lena Fulmer, whose enduring friendship remained steadfast since elementary school.

Visitation will be held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 6 pm to 8 pm. A graveside service will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

In honor of Carolyn's memory, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Carol was a friend and neighbor for many years. Our daughters were together from elementary school and high school. We had vacations in Arkansas and happy memories for many years. Carol was a sweet soul. She will be missed. Love to the entire family.

I have fond memories being at Carolyn’s home and the hospitality she showed me, Doug Jopling and Steve Thompson. We were Dee Ann’s friends and we did everything together. She always treated us like family and she in turn was truly a part of our family. I will miss her deeply.

In the late 70s and early 80s Dee Ann had a close group of friends who would frequently gather at Carol and Joe's on Fridays and Saturdays. They always made their home a safe and cool place for the teenagers to chill. That probably kept us all out of trouble we otherwise may have gotten into if they didn't open their home to Dee Ann's gang like they did. We ate good food, danced, swam and learned an appreciation for the great music produced during that time. Carol was the mother outside of our own homes who kept a watchful eye on us while keeping us in line but letting us be kids and have fun. I will miss her.

So many wonderful memories with Carol. She was "Chosen Family" - my bonus mother and my girls bonus grandmother. I treasure every memory and moment we spent together. Sunday dinners, lake trips, swimming pool time, holiday fun through the year, game playing and so much more - these were all extra special because of her. So thankful she was part of our lives. All our love.....

I will always remember her infectious smile and kindness she had. Us kids would be playing nearby while our Mothers would talk. Of course my Mother would do most of the talking. Dee if you need someone to talk to during this difficult time. I am always here for you. “Hugs” from Texas. This was a beautiful obituary. Janet

Aunt Carol was such a beautiful person. I have fond memories of her sweet laugh, warm hugs, encouraging presence, sense of humor, and kindness to all. I will always remember Christmases as a child at her house with the family. She will be forever missed on Earth but is now at peace in our Lord’s presence, reunited with my Nana (Betty Sue) and many other loved ones. I’m so grateful she was a part of my life.
