Shirley Anne Reed

of North Little Rock, AR

March 17, 1937 - June 8, 2024

Shirley Anne Waymon Reed was born on Wednesday, March 17, 1937 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Nineteen years and two days after she lost her beloved husband, Dwaine, Shirley passed into heaven during the early hours of Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the age of eighty-seven. Her parents, Fred and Edna (Johnson) Waymon; her brothers, Verl Waymon and Lawson Bass and sister, Joyce Cooper, preceded her in death, as did her daughter, Julie Anne Reed and her granddaughter, Katie Anne Villines Thomas.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Dana Reed Villines; her son, Eddie Reed; granddaughters, Amanda Villines Cowger and Emily Reed and grandson-in-law, Jared Thomas. Also loved by Mimi, are her great-grandchildren, Luke Thomas, Sam Cowger and Julie Kate Cowger.

Shirley frequently reminisced about growing up in Pocahontas. She loved to tell stories about getting into trouble with her best friend, Peggy and babysitting her two baby nephews. She was a proud graduate of Pocahontas High School class of 1954. Dwaine and Shirley married in 1957. For nine years, Dwaine worked for the railroad and the family moved more than thirty-six times during that time. In 1967, they settled in North Little Rock. After her children were older, Shirley worked in the credit department at Sears McCain Mall for twenty-five years. She loved every minute.

Baptized at an early age, Shirley was a faithful Christian-the last fifty plus years in service to the Levy Church of Christ, North Little Rock. If the doors were open, she was there. For illness or sadness at someone's home, a cake or casserole was delivered. She spent several years visiting friends in hospitals and nursing homes trying to brighten their day.

Many thanks are extended to those who went out of their way to visit in the last years when Alzheimer's took its toll-- John Robinson, Deby and Joe Morceri, Danny and Roberta Waymon, Jennifer and Chuck Allen, Brenda Jones and Kyle Murray.

The family would like to thank the employees at Stonebridge for caring for her during COVID (which she survived). Deepest thanks to Perryville Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice for the kind, loving care provided the last six months.

Shirley-Mom-Mimi was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 16, at 2:00pm at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, AR. Private burial will be later at Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas, AR.

Love and prayers! Great Aunt Shirley and Great Uncle Dwaine were ALWAYS so good to me growing up since I came along to join their family at age 6. Her sister, Joyce Cooper, was the best Grandma a girl could have. They were definitely raised well per Grandma and Grandpa Waymon. Love and hugs to Dana, Amanda, Eddie, Emily and the rest of the family. Pocahontas will ALWAYS have a very special place in my heart. I have such fond memories of Shirley, Dwayne, Grandma and Grandpa Cooper, Julie, Katie, Uncle Gary, cousins Amy and Corey Bennett. I con-tine to be so thankful for my relationship with Dennis and Jeremy Cooper. God bless
Rodney too!

I have so many fond memories of the Reed family because Julie was my best friend for so many years. I had a delightful visit with Shirley a few years ago and we talked and talked about Julie, Dana, Eddie and the wonderful grandchildren. Shirley and Dwayne raised three awesome, intelligent, godly children. Julie and I gravitated toward each other because of our shared humor/ laughter and it was such a special friendship. The Reed family is a family of love, devotion, and kindness. Thank you Shirley for molding and giving me a great friend.

I am absolutely heartbroken. She taught me all the ways to serve and love our Lord. I enjoyed watching the wheel of fortune, nancy grace, the price is right, occasionally jeopardy, AFV, the suze orman show, and ALWAYS Judge Judy. We enjoyed playing Go Fish, Old Maid, Crazy 8s, bingo, and puzzles together. We enjoyed sitting outside and drinking our coffee. We loved to get up at the crack of dawn to garage sales, estate sales, and flea markets. We enjoyed our morning walks around the neighborhood. Peach picking. Going to the farmers market together. We loved to cook and bake together. That’s where some of the skills I have came from. We loved going to the mall together. She served at sears for many many years. She thoroughly enjoyed having my friends over as they were some extra grandkids to her. We enjoyed volunteering at a nursing home each week..making sure people had company. She was my best friend that was always full of stories that I would loce to hear over and over again. She is one of the women who shaped me into who I am today. I can hear my Pop and Aunt Julie saying “well it took ya long enough.” And giving her the biggest hug and lots of love. Mimi, tell Pop I said he better not be smoking no Marlboro reds up there. Give everybody some love for me and i will see them later. I love you so much Mimi. You were one of my biggest supporters and inspirations. Not a goodbye…but a see you later.
