Rebecca Meek

June 6, 1938 - March 14, 2024

Sara Rebecca Sanders Meek departed this life on Thursday, March
14, 2024, after a courageous battle with breast cancer at Washington
Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Rebecca was born in
Little Rock, Arkansas, on June 6, 1938, the daughter of Ted and Jo T.
Sanders.
Rebecca grew up in Marshall, Arkansas, surrounded by extended
family. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1956, where she
was editor of The Bobcat Yearbook and a member of multiple clubs.
After graduation, Rebecca attended the University of Arkansas in
Fayetteville where she joined Delta Gamma Sorority and served on
various committees. Rebecca was active in the Disciples Student
Fellowship at the U of A and chaired Christian Education Week. She
graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in January 1961 and
went on to teach at Greenwood Elementary School in Hot Springs for
two years and Sutton Elementary in Fort Smith for one year.
Rebecca met James W. Meek, the love of her life, on a blind date,
and they were married in 1963. Jim and Rebecca lived in Fort Smith and
had two children, David and Susan, before moving to North Little Rock
in the seventies. Through the years, Rebecca enjoyed fundraising and
volunteering at her children's schools. She shared a love of genealogy,
music, and the arts with her children. Rebecca was truly dedicated to her
family and friends and could always be counted on for help, support,
and a listening ear.
For over 50 years, Rebecca devoted much of her time to her church,
Park Hill Christian Church. She was a member of Disciples Women and
served numerous terms as president. Rebecca served the church as an
Elder and Deacon and chaired several committees. She was a member of
Church Women United and chaired the transportation committee for
many years. Rebecca lovingly guided the Acolytes on Sunday mornings.
She also worked for Sam's Club as Demo Coordinator before retiring in
2012. Rebecca enjoyed volunteering at The Shepherd Center and was an
avid Razorback fan.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Susan Meek, of Fayetteville;
son-in-law, David Peters, of Perryville; brother, Ted Sanders and wife,
Nancy, of Mountain Home; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and
extended family and truly dear friends. Rebecca is predeceased by her
husband of almost 50 years, Jim Meek; and her beloved son, David Meek.
Memorials can be made to Park Hill Christian Church's food pantry.
