James Michael BuchananI am a Veteran.

of Conway, AR

December 30, 1944 - June 4, 2024

James Michael Buchanan peacefully passed away early in the morning of June 4th. Jim (James, Jimmy, Buck) was kind and fun-loving and he dressed with finesse (often styling with a hat, blazer and sun glasses). Jim was known as a walking encyclopedia, who sometimes authored his own pages. He was also known for his work in food service as a chef and restauranteur for Remington's and Lucille's, Buckaroo's Intercontinental Catering food truck (before food trucks were cool), food service manager at Choctaw Indian Bingo and Wesley Village and he hung up his apron in the Pub at Austin College. His favorite pastime was being with his family. Mostly, he loved talking/watching football with his son, Justin.

Jim graduated high school from Bells, TX in 1963. He then joined the Navy and served two tours-one during the Vietnam War where he served on the USS Biddle. On ship, Jim traveled the world earning the Naval unofficial distinctions of Shellback, Order of Magellan and Golden Dragon. During the fall of 1968, Jim met his future wife at a party, Edith Jane DeWitt Buchanan. ''Our eyes locked from across the room and it was love at first sight'', Edith would say, always recalling the moment with a smile. Their long-distance courtship continued until they married July 4, 1970 in Alexandria, LA. The rest they say is history.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Edith and brothers in-law, Ace Fulmer and Dillard Rice. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Justin (wife, Michelle); his brother, Jan Marcus (wife, Jan); his sisters, Sharon Fulmer Hance and Cheryle Rice Adams (husbands, Gary and Michael) and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends all over the world.

In support of Jim's wishes, there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Denison Alumni Association. Locate ''Memorial Gift'' at the bottom of the page. Identify James (or Jim) Buchanan as the name of the memorial. Your gift will go towards the Edith and Jim Buchanan scholarship set up for Denison High School students interested in pursuing a teaching degree.

Justin
I am so sorry for your loss of your Dad. After losing my husband and my Dad last year I completely understand the whole that is left in your heart. My prayers are with you and your wife as you navigate forward without your Dad. Cherish your memories with your parents and lean on those memories. They will always be with you. Look for the signs. It’s all around you. Just be still, breathe and know they are there. Sending much love, prayers and hugs to you.

Farewell Cousin. I and my family are deeply saddened at this news. My thoughts have been flashing to our days growing up working the dairy and the farm, the crazy car rides, Papaw and Jasmine, the lake, our many family get togethers. And after a few years spent growing older, but not up, reconnecting our bonds and discovering new shared interests and habits. Our conversations were never boring. I will truly miss you.

Buck,

I'm deeply sorry to hear about the passing of your father. Losing a parent, especially one who has lived a long and full life, can be an incredibly difficult experience. Please know that my thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with you and your family during this time of mourning.

Your father's legacy will live on through the cherished memories and the love he shared with those around him. May you find comfort in the warmth of those memories and in the love and support of family and friends.

While the pain of his absence may feel overwhelming now, I hope that in time, you'll find solace in the beautiful moments you shared together and the lasting impact he had on your life. If there's anything I can do to support you during this time, please don't hesitate to reach out.

They are back together again.

Jimmy, we went thru 12 years of school together. Memories are many all the way from a few summers at the lake with you and your family, to many episodes thru school and fun times. My Mother called you one of her boys because you were at our house so often. You have left a giant hole in my heart but thank you for memories that cant be taken away.

I'll always remember our years at Bells High School.
Good times and good memories. It was very good to contact you and renew our friendship in our later years of life. You will be missed my friend and fellow classmate of BHS 1963.
