Doris Jean Underwood

of Heber Springs, AR

April 19, 1937 - May 7, 2024

Doris Jean Underwood, 87, daughter of Arthur and Neva French of Damascus, passed away Tuesday May 7, 2024. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Underwood; brothers, Kennin French, Richard French, J. D. French, Jimmy French and sister, Hildaree Short. She is survived by her brother, Ted French of Summerville and her many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Doris was known for her amazing passion for the Real Estate Business. She opened the first Coldwell Banker Real Estate franchise in Arkansas in 1974 in Conway. Relocating to Heber Springs in 1997, she opened Underwood Real Estate and continued that business through 2022. While having an impeccable eye for real estate and home design, she also had a lifelong passion for entertaining at her home on Eden Isle. You would meet the most amazing people at a 'Doris Underwood Party'. From the retired Swiss military, artists of every form and domain, past French lovers, long lost family, the latest champion of the sailing regatta, expatriates coming/going from trips abroad, tycoons of industry, our country's politicians, an avid fly fisherman, a pair of scientists and scholars of the most prestigious universities. Her garden would soak up the sounds of laughter. There would be Doris, framed by the champagne glow of the sunsets off the Greer's Ferry Lake. She would glide around the dinner party as it buzzed around her. All this merriment was of her making.
Doris threw the best parties!

All are welcome to join the family to Celebrate Doris' life at a Graveside Service at Bee Branch Cemetery at 1:00 PM, May 22, 2024.

Memorial gifts in Doris' honor may be made to her favorite charity, Breaking Bread Ministries, P O Box 711, Heber Springs AR 72543.

I met Doris at an open house on Eden Isle and she immediately became my agent. Her “tell it like it is” style won me over immediately. I’ve worked with many real estate agents in my time. When other agents would discourage me from making offers they considered to be “too low” or “offensive”, Doris would encourage me to make them and work like heck to make the seller take it. She was very persuasive. I also appreciated her honesty when it came to real estate. She would always tell me how she felt about a house, whether I wanted to hear it or not. I trusted her judgment completely.

Doris quickly became more than just my agent, she became my friend. Whenever I was in town (Eden Isle) she would invite me over to her fabulous home overlooking the lake, or to have lunch at “her table” at the Inn. I loved listening to Doris tell stories about her fabulous life.

I’m going to miss her, and I’m sick I can’t make it to her memorial service. I would love meet those who loved Doris and tell them how much she meant to me.
