Teddy Joe McKay, known as TJ to most, was a cherished father, grandfather, veteran and animal lover, passed away on April 27, 2024 at the age of 77. TJ was born on September 12, 1946 in Crittenden County. He spent his younger years playing baseball with his siblings and many friends on 8th street!! TJ was a proud graduate of West Memphis High School.

After high school TJ's adventurous spirit led him to serve his country in the Air Force, where he began as a mechanic and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E5). He served his country in Vietnam and was stationed in Korea. TJ served proudly during this time of war demonstrating his dedication and bravery. He loved his country and the men and women who fought for it up till the day he passed!!

After his military service, TJ returned home to work alongside his father at McKay Plumbing, the family business, instilling in him a strong sense of loyalty and hard work. He later joined the West Memphis Fire Department, where he served valiantly as a Fireman and EMT, before eventually returning to plumbing, where he concluded his career as a supervisor for Roto Rooter out of Memphis.

A true friend to animals, Teddy shared his home with a very special dog named Doc whom he loved dearly! He also took in a stray cat named Lady, with whom he enjoyed sharing his Cheetos with.

Teddy's legacy lives on through his daughter, Leah McKay Michaels of Lake City and his beloved grandchildren, Kelsey and Trey Michaels. TJ loved being a dad to his daughter. He said she was the best thing that even happened to him. He always called to make sure Leah got home safe, offered words of advice and support. TJ and his daughter, Leah, were a constant in each other's daily life right up until the end. TJ loved the outdoors, fishing and guns. This was a bond he shared with his grandson, Trey. TJ loved to hear about Trey's adventures and never failed to ask about how the basketball game was. He often gave pointers to Trey and was proud of the young man he was becoming. TJ whole heartedly supported his granddaughter, Kelsey, as she pursues her dream of becoming a veterinarian at Mississippi State University. TJ's unwavering support and love for Kelsey filled him with pride. He could be heard telling everyone how proud he was of her and how much he loved her. TJ also had a fondness for playing the lottery as well as his love for scratch off tickets. He was always hopeful for a big win even up until the end.

TJ joins his parents, Anna and Joe McKay; brothers, Jimmy and Ricky McKay; Sisters, Cleo Hattchet and Genie Proctor; a niece, Meredith McKay and his ex-wife and mother of his daughter, Linda Fletcher McKay in heaven. Teddy's life was a testament to his strength, kindness and enduring commitment to his family and community. His memory will forever be a beacon of love and resilience for those who knew him. We honor his life and his service and though he will be sorely missed, his spirit will continue to inspire all of us.
