Mr. Stuart ''Stu'' Wayne Friend, 82, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, March 05, 2024 in Mountain Home. He was born in Salinas, California on October 10, 1941 to James Roscoe and Mary Alice (Walker) Friend. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (serving on the Vestry, as a Treasurer and a chairman on the new church building committee), a member of the Elks Lodge #1714 (serving 4 years as the Lodge President and 2 terms as the District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the State of Arkansas East District), a member and President of Kindness Inc. and served 9 years (8 years as Chairman) on the County of Equalization for Baxter County. He was also an avid golf player and enjoyed shooting pool.

Stu graduated from King City High School in King City, California in 1959 and went on to college. In high school and college he was an all star track star, winning many trophies and medals. After college, in 1962, he joined the United States Navy and served as an air traffic controller for 4 years and 4 months. In 1966, he went to work for the 3M Corporation and during those 33 years he returned to college to earn his Bachelor's of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and held many various positions before retiring as a manufacturing operations manager.

On June 06, 1964, he married his wife of 60 years, Roxanne (Rozelle) Friend in Huntington Park, California. They lived in many places including Camarillo, California; Wahpeton, North Dakota; Woodbury, Minnesota and Mexicali, Mexico before retiring to Mountain Home in 1999.

Stu is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Susan Lorraine Hansen (Steve) of Montrose, Minnesota; son, James Roscoe Friend of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandson, Daniel Hansen (Samantha) of Farmington, Minnesota; granddaughter, Isabella Hansen of Kalispell, Montana; 2 brothers, Steven Friend of Las Vegas, Nevada and Raymond Douglas Friend of Washington State; sister, Brenda Vaught (Richard) of Fullerton, California and multiple nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with inurnment to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 511 Coley Drive, Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Stu was a wonderful asset to many Twin Lakes organizations and initiatives and I know I'm not alone in missing him today. Glad to have worked with him at Kindness, Inc, where he served as a Board Member and a steady, positive influence. Good man, life well lived. My condolences to his family.
