February 22, 2024

Thelma J. Reunard (more fondly known as Sam, Mom, Gi or Gigi), passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 22, 2024 at the age of 79. Thelma was born in 1944 to Fred Hardin and Viola Hardin in a small town in Arkansas. Thelma preferred to be called 'Sam' by family and friends. Most people only knew her by the name of Sam.

Sam did so many things in life to make a living. She also lived in so many places. She however found her 'calling' as a private caregiver in Tucson, Arizona. Sam was well known to be the very best private caregiver in the Tucson area.

Sam frequently and very proudly spoke of her memories of the love, strength, character and adventures of all of her family members. Sam has 5 children, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 10 siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Twila Barnd-daughter (Deborah Barnd); grandchild, Samantha Lind (great grandchildren, Britney Lansdell, Everett Stark); grandchild, Thomas Barnes (great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Barker, Hailey Barnes); grandchild, Joseph Barnes; (great-grandchildren, JD Barnes, Caitlin Barnes, Aubrey Barnes, Grace Barnes and Elijah Barnes).

Tawana Fox-daughter (Mark Fox); grandchild, Latisha Haile (great-grandchildren, Ben Haile, Ian Haile); grandchild, Bruce Deleon (great-grandchildren, Jace Deleon and Luke Deleon).

Scott Montgomery Sr.-son (Catilina Montgomery); grandchild, Scott Montgomery Jr. (great-grandchildren, Olivia Montgomery, Sebastian Montgomery) and grandchild, Amber Gutierrez.

Frank Montgomery-son (Michele); grandchild, Shawn Sanders, (great-grandchildren, Xavier Sanders, Dominic Sanders, Elena Sanders); grandchild, Ashly Wyatt (great-grandchildren, Ireland Wyatt, Baily Wyatt, Ryder Wyatt, Hunter Wyatt) grandchild, Craig Montgomery (great-grandchildren, Annabella Montgomery, Craig Montgomery Jr. and Jameson Montgomery).

Viola Roberts-daughter; grandchild, Mark Sellers (great-grand child, Vanessa Sellers) grandchild, Zachary Sellers; grandchild, Crystal Sellers (great-grandchildren, Chloe Dreher and Carmen Roby).

Sam had special and unique bonds with each of her ten siblings, Margaret Hardin Kirk, Charlie Hardin, Carolyn Slane, Mike Hardin, Lane Hardin, David Hardin, Doyle Hardin, Tim Hardin, John Hardin, Rhonda Thornsberry and as Sam called them, 'like one of my sisters' even though they are in-laws, Karen Hardin, Deanna Hardin and Rita Hardin. Sam's versions of her childhood with her siblings were so interesting to listen to as she spoke of the 'Hardin' love, strength and adventures.

The following family members preceded her in death, Viola Hardin (Mother), Fred Hardin (Father), Lane Hardin (brother), Doyle Hardin (brother), Scott Montgomery Sr. (son) and Catalina Montgomery (daughter in-law).

Sam had many nieces and nephews. She did however have a special 'Auntie' connection to Morgan Hardin as they spent a lot of time visiting and speaking with each other throughout the years.

Each of the spouses and significant others of all her children, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, were all very special to her as well. She considered and appreciated them as the life blood and bond of the very special family traits of love and strength, not only for the present, but also for future generations.

Sam's family cannot write her obituary without highlighting her over 55 year friendship with Erma Evans. Erma was Sam's rock in life. She was her 'person.' They would often talk and laugh for hours at a time - day or night. The delight in Sam's voice and the sparkle in her eyes during those conversations and visits said it all. Erma, thank you so much for being such a joy to Thelma, along with being such an important part of our family.

Sam touched so many lives. She leaves her legacy with her children and all that knew her. She was and always will be, such a force of nature and of love, in all of our lives. We are grateful for knowing her and having her in our lives. Rest in peace Sam, Mom, Gi, Gigi.

You were always the "life of the party". You will always be Aunt Thelma to me-- I could never get the hang of calling you Aunt Sam. You will be missed by many. Go Rest Easy on that Mountain and say hello to the other Hardin Crew that has made it there.

My momma was a precious gift to me. We had good times and hard times and we could get mad, but love always pulled us through it. You were the only mom that could have raised me because you taught me so much. You had a special smile for each and every person that you loved. And only your children could make it out shine the sun.
