John Marvin Ham of Bassett, AR passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was born in Joiner, Arkansas on June 16, 1940 to Earl Lee Ham and Mary Davidson Hathcock. John owned and operated John Ham Roofing Company for many years. He enjoyed collecting many different things, roofing and working in his yard. John is survived by his three loving daughters, Rhonda Barnette (Scott Jennings) of Southaven, MS, Belinda Clark of Old Towne, FL, Victoria Ham of Burlington, IA; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three sisters, Martha Ashley (Jimmy Mann) of Bassett, AR, Mary Louise Hathcock of Bassett, AR, Peggy (Bill) Meyer of Festus, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Dewayne Ham and several brothers and sisters. A Life Celebration will be held at Roller-Swift Funeral Home on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Where do I begin? Memories! So many.
Climbing a ladder with a couple of shingles to get on the roof and try to do what he was doing. He was a roofer! Roofing was his life.
Fishing and hunting, yes we did that!
One lesson he taught me was about cleaning a rabbit. He would always tell me “ don’t get hair on that rabbit”!
He was an athlete. He played football,
basketball, and track! I can hear him now cheering me on as I was playing basketball or watching me cheering for the colts football team.
He was always telling me
“You’re too much like your old dad”!
My daddy met so many people and thus, so many people knew my daddy!
I hope one day I can meet some of them. I’d like to hear their stories about him.

It breaks my heart to know that I will not ever hear him call me Cricket.
But I know from time to time, he will look down from heaven and whisper in my ear, hey Cricket this is your dad and I love you!

Was saddened to hear the news about John. I worked for many years with him and am glad I got to see him last summer and spend a little time and catch up.No longer related by marriage but he was still family. Prayers out to the rest of the family. He will be missed.

Sadden to learn of John’s passing. We were classmates, teammates and friends at Shawnee School in Joiner. We graduated from Shawnee in 1960. John was a hard worker and a successful roofing contractor. Prayers of peace and comfort extended to John’s family.
