Lorene Swafford Brown-Martin

of Bee Branch, AR

March 30, 1930 - January 18, 2024

Lorene (Swafford) Brown Martin of Bee Branch, Arkansas went to her heavenly home on January 18, 2024 in Clinton, Arkansas. She was born March 30, 1930 in PeeDee, Arkansas to the late Ben Swafford and Lois M. Bradford Swafford. Lorene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and cared deeply for all her extended family. She was an inspiration to her family and a care-giver to many of them during illnesses and their passing into the arms of their loving Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lorene was a member of Christ Alive Church at Sardis, Damascus, Arkansas. She graduated from Quitman High School in Quitman, Arkansas in 1948 and retired from the Morrilton School System after 23 years of service.

Lorene married Louis Brown in Clinton, Arkansas in December of 1949 and they had three children, Gary, David and Paula. Louis passed away in April of 1968. She married her second husband, Grover Martin, in 1970 and he passed away in December, 2005.

Her passions included sewing for herself and other family members and growing beautiful flowers for her home and yard. All who knew her will agree-she really did have a ''green thumb.''

Lorene loved to read her Bible. Her favorite Bible chapter was Psalms 23. She was not fond of her first name, Jemima, until she found it in the Bible (Job 42:14-15) and then she thought it was OK.

Lorene is preceded in death by her two husbands, parents and maternal grandparents, Nathan Bradford and Elizabeth (Huggins) Bradford. She is also preceded by her daughter, Paula Marlene (Brown) DeGroat, who passed away in 2000; her daughter-in-law, Janet (Moore) Brown, who passed away in 2006 and her only sibling, Kathleen ('Shorty') Maness, who passed away in 2017.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Gary Lee Brown and wife, Eva, David Ray Brown and friend, Sandra Edwards; five grandchildren, Colby David Brown, Cade Nathan Brown and wife, Christina, Randi Leigh Brown, Taylor Rae DeGroat and Elizabeth Grace (Lizzie) DeGroat Perkins; two great-grandchildren, Ronan Maverick Quinalty and Cutler Wade Brown and many other family and friends.

To celebrate Lorene's life, a memorial service will be held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, at Lorene's request, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital (ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105).

The family would like to thank both the staff at Ozark Health Nursing and Rehab and the hospice caregivers for the exceptional care they provided Lorene throughout her stay there.

Aunt Lorene was my last aunt to pass away. Even though we were far apart, I tried to keep her in lots of candy and snacks. Her and I liked our junk food and her desserts. Her daughter who passed, asked me to help watch over her. Mother and I tried and hope I did as I could. She was such a wonderful, special person and caregiver for so many. I told her that I loved her every chance I got. There is no doubt about it , she was ready to go to her heavenly home and is there now, with no pain, no illness, no worries and no troubles. I know she is resting in peace for eternity. We loved her SO much. She cared for many loved ones through the years.
