Barbara Nell Cox Metheny, 86, of Little Rock, AR passed away January 8, 2024. She was born September 15, 1937 in Okolona, AR to the late Ed Brisco Cox and Frances Gertrude Jones Cox. Barbara attended Missco High School in Etowah, AR. She was married to the late Allen Metheny and was a housewife and full-time mother, providing full time chauffeur service for her children and their friends and lead photographer for her family. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. Later in life she moved to North Little Rock, AR where she utilized her nurturing nature as a nanny and caregiver. She attended Faith Baptist Church in Sherwood. She was later a resident of Fox Ridge-Chenal Assisted Living and Memory Care in Little Rock before moving into her daughter's home in April, 2020. She enjoyed cooking, reading and ballroom dancing with friends, but her life was dedicated to nurturing, supporting, loving and spending time with her family. Her only competitive spirit came out during Skip Bo games with her sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Frances Cox; Allen Metheny; sister, Jeanetta Watkins and daughter, Diane Metheny Dillard. She is survived by her son, Steve Metheny (Janet) of Etowah, AR; daughters, Pam Metheny Russell of Marion, AR and Sandra Metheny of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Michael Dillard (LeAndra) of Gurdon, AR, Jaime Dillard Tobin of Natchitoches, LA, Ashley Metheny Smith (Justin) of Mountain Home, AR, Austin Metheny (Chelsea) of Etowah, AR, Nicole Parnell (Paul) of Little Rock, AR, Jordan Russell (Emily) of St. Louis, MO and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Kenneth Cox (Delois) of Hot Springs and Ronnie Cox of Wilson, AR; Sisters, Anna Pendergrass (Dennis) of Athelstan, AR, Linda Gardner (Eddie) of Keiser, AR, Sherrie Rowe (Ronnie) of Magnolia, AR and Jan Johnson of Etowah, AR and host of nieces and nephews. The family expresses our appreciation to the dedicated caregivers from Favor Home Care, Charolotte Easton, Toshia Gulley and Kim Young and especially to Kay Crutchfield for her love and supportive care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Garden Point Cemetery, P O Box 113 Etowah, AR. 72428.

Barbara was my neighbor in NLR for many years. She was a kind and caring person and we even had mutual friends in Tennessee, my home state. Barbara was always willing to help out her neighbors.
